Pavlik is much bigger, longer, and stronger than Martinez. So then why did Pavlik get his ass kicked? Simple, Martinez is a stylistic nightmare for Pavlik. Pavlik is a jab dependant, orthodox puncher. Martinez is a southpaw counterpuncher with excellent lateral movement. The result, Pavlik's jab was renedered useless and he couldn't setup the rest of his offense. Styles, skillset will always trump size, age, experience, and accomplishments. Pavlik is a limited fighter. He needs to stick to fighting guys who will stand right in front of him.

As the old saying goes, speed kills. Pavlik gaining 18 lbs. in 24 hours. That's crazy.

Here's the thing though, timing will beat speed. Unfortunately for Pavlik, Martinez is faster and has better timing. Martinez is just a better athlete and a lot more skilled than Pavlik. Pavlik is lost if he can't land his jab.
