I absolutely think they should bring back 15 rounders. I don't think they ever will though. In the case of this Williams-Martinez fight, it would probably still be 12 rounds because no title was a stake. I am all for 15 round championship fights.
it would be hard to enforce that. I think it was 5 minutes after the bell rang when they gloved up again. It remember it being a rather sloppy round where both were throwing big volume of punches and flurries just to win the round, no huge punches. They were both tired.
Perhaps not, but here its a tool to follow a logical pattern to its natural conclusion. 12 is, arguably, safer for the fighter.......but you can continue cutting down using that argument. Nobody cares enough about fighter safety to the point where they campaign for 3 rounds, which would undeniably be far, far safer.
Props to TyrantT316 for his posts in this thread. I remember seeing a report somewhere, can't remember if it was 60 Min. or 20/20, where they argued that rounds past 12 further imperiled boxers because the added exhaustion & dehydration had combined problems of boxers being too tired to properly defend themselves & being too drained to sustain punches. In other words, the old "Championship rounds" were the deadliest. Look at it this way: imagine if Gatti vs Ward would have been all 15 rounders.
Right,.......for suggesting that the rest of us think Fighters are just pieces of meat who's safety isnt a concern, whereas he is the threads caring humanitarian Boxing fan who realizes they boxers are human beings, not fighting dogs? I see:think However we, of course, want them to fight until somebody is rendered dead or unconscious? Fuk right off. Sanctimonious bull**** and a cop-out. The thread is about 12 vs 15 rounders, Not about them fighting 20+ rounds, or to the death, so the....'Im from the Mahatama Ghandi school of caring Boxing fan'...routine is bollocks. Moreover the guy who mentioned John L Sullivan wasnt serious, so him jumping on it to take the moral high ground is bloody ridiculous.
:deal Williams took the worst of it in the opening rounds, no doubt. But as it got late in the evening, any objective viewer could see who was clearly tiring, and who would have been grinded down.
The main reason given for switching to 12 round fights was because smaller fighters were training to hard to make weight and were the main fighters being injured or killed. With weigh-ins now a day before the fight there is no reason not to have 15 round title fights. There have been more serious injuries since switching to 12 round fights so it seems early weigh-ins which cause mismatches may do more harm than good.
u have never boxed i take it...cheating the fans??? tell ward gatti they cheated the fans...3 10 rd fights
micky is ****ed up as it is from 10 rders....anything to come closer to getting a guy killed on here...no quitting, no early stoppages, no backing down, now 15 rders are NEEDED! ward gatti would have never got to the 12th rd if so they may both have been brain dead
12 rds is plenty...it is not a moral high ground it is just a fair amount of rds...these guys take a ****ing beating....plenty of time to get it done in 12
All the fans need to unite and make sure that judge is not judging anymore...it is obvious he is blind. He scored the 1st rd 10-10 and then gave all rounds to Williams...WTF? ***** For emails & calls regarding Pierre Benoist's scoring in Atlantic City, contact Aaron Davis, NJ ACB Commissioner @ (609) 292-0317, FAX him @ (609) 292-3756 or email him @ This content is protected
Read again. Both Tyrant & I are against 15 rounders for all the reasons posted. Neither of us agree with the thread starter. Way to misplace your angst...
