Let's just say the general public in the UK won't allow themselves to be scammed like this every again by a Haye PPV. That's pretty much for certain.
Bull****. How many people knew the "exact" outcome? Both of these fights attracted masses of people who thought Pacquiao and Haye would lose, which is why they were a crossover success. Any time boxing crosses over into the mainstream, it's a good thing. Sure, you may have predicted the outcome but so what? The people who make boxing a niche sport are like you. The people who make it into a mainstream business are the ones who didn't have a strong opinion. Boxing needs those fans to thrive. It's not about the thousands who post on message boards and suck people like Dan Rafael off. It's about connecting to the mainstream public and any time boxing does that, it's a success.
People didn't want to see a great fight, they wanted to see Harrison get beat. Listen to the chorus of boos as he came down and the taunting after the bout. The first two rounds has all been put on him and the general consensus is, even though people were disappointed it was a poor fight, they were happy to see Harrison get obliterated. Haye is no less popular than he was yesterday and I'm sure he gained a lot of fans, by knocking out Harrison, who everyone dislikes. There was also Groves, who would have got the casual fans interest. That type of fight on that type of show, is how stars are born.
lol I'm not sure I did. There are quite a few others that are supporting the same one, I certainly wasn't the first.
But even then, Jack. It was hardly a pleasing-to-the-eye knockout. He was just swarmed with a quick assault, bundled over, got back up, and swarmed again before the referee intervened. It was what, a mere 30 seconds worth of punishment? Even the fans who wanted to see Audley get destroyed were thinking - oh ok, is that it? Fact is, the Haye vs Harrison fight was the failure that we thought it was going to be. This would have been minimized if it was just another ordinary British fight, but unfortunately, it was was built to be a massive event. It just created a bigger stage for the sport to disappoint again. But with that said, I did enjoy the lead up and the banter between the two.
