I found it amusing how Lampley would look frustrated and talk to his producer through the earpiece live on air. Happened two or three times.

Yeah he landed plenty on the inside while Shane was swinging and missing.

Haven't seen the fight in a while. At what point were they hyping him?

Even up to late on when it was clear he was fighting a losing battle and looked like he'd been run over repeatedly by a train.

They were terrible in that fight. The only person who was speaking the truth was Harold Lederman. I remember him describing Martinez in that fight as a great ring general, utilizing the strategy of 'in and out' perfectly. Merchent then responds mockingly by spouting something like "You call it ring generalship, we call it getting on your bike".

Then the moment Pavlik made minor adjustments, the ****ers were all over his dick. Talking about how he's figured him out, and that Martinez has no backup plan, is a limited fighter, and throwing pitter patter punches that are meaningless. Then BAMB!, Martinez nails Pavlik with a brilliant left that opens up a cut , proceeding to paste him with shots for the remainder of the 12 rounds.

Lampley, Merchant and Steward, all looked like tosspots on the night.

we got HBO pictures but a totally different commentator.

Thank god, because I hate listening to Lampley and Merchant.

  9. I grew up listening to Lampley and Merchant. I always thought they were the ****... kind of the nostalgic voices of Boxing for me..

All that said, as time has passed Merchant has gotten older and older and has made less and less sense while talking slower and slower and s l o w e rr r r r. And Lampley seems like he's gotten jaded with time...

You'd think the HBO commentators would be a little more kind to their main event fighters on these $50 shows. I mean... do people really want to hear about how their money is being wasted while they watch a terrible fight? It's just gonna cause backlash (I.E. this thread.)

Lampleys an *******. The guys just a bully and loves the sound of his own voice. Personally iv had enough of him. As for Merchant he's so freaking old now he cant even string a sentence together in less than a hour. HBO needs some new blood.
