Was it just me or was it negligent to let Povetkin carry on after the first knockdown? He fell over through the ropes trying to get back up. There was no way it should’ve been allowed to continue IMO. Luckily Povetkin is healthy this morning.
Povetkin's manager/trainer pulled Povetkin's glove off the rope he was using to try to get up, that's why he fell. If the ref would have saw it live Povetkin would have been DQ'ed instead of TKO'ed.
I thought it should've been stopped after the 1st KD. In 99% cases after such a hard knockdown the fight ends in few secs thereafter. Fighter is still hurt, he can't defend himself properly. Check Holy vs Bowe 3, or Chisora vs Takam fights for example.
No i dont think so. He was able to stand up and give the ref the required signals, the ref was plenty quick enough to jump straight back in as soon as it was clear he was definatly done for only seconds later so it showed he was already done for but i feel he was worth that last oppertunity to realise his dream. I wouldnt of complained if it had been stopped after the knock down but can you imagine this place. 36 British Stoppages threads. Not that the ref was adding this to his decision to let it continue.
If the ref stopped it after the 1st KD it would have been called a 'british stoppage' and controversy would have plagued the fight. Even after the stoppage and his corner jumping on the ring people were still calling an early stoppage.
