Who wins? I favor Muhammad Ali too much speed power and skill, simple as that. Ali used to float around the ring using depth perception as one of his tactics, example given: he darted in and out, while he was iup close he landed his clean blows, then consequently he created more space as to screw up the opponent's perception of where his head/ body was gonna be. Kinda like Margarito pacman, PAC darted in to land punches; then out to get out of harm's way. Creating a problem with depth perception somewhat like Ali. Then Holyfield, he was a true power boxer, explosive blows always keeping a workmanlike tempo of a bounce, neither too slow nor fast. He moved when his heart said move, in and out, brawling and boxing, playing d and offence, using his hands to parry, feet to get him out of the way. A counterpuncher. As I think on it, it seems Holyfield has many tools in his arsenal. BUT Ali would be like that older brother holding the little kids head at distance. Evander would have his moments, but I stick firm to the Ali description that he out guiles the heavyset built yet lithe heavyweight. One for the ages.
This would have been a great fight. Prime Muhammad Ali vs. Prime Evander Holyfield. 12 Rounds? I would make Prime Muhammad Ali the favorite, and would expect him to win by decision most times.
I think Holyfield gets tore up, despite his skill on the inside he never pressed like Frazier, he ate shots from old Foreman, Ali isn't knocking him down but Holyfield would pretty much be target practice for Ali, could see it getting stopped due to cuts Ali tko by 8
Ali got punched up so much before he was old, I sometimes think he's the most highlight-hysteria-inducing heavyweight ever. People have no idea wtf they are watching. Holyfield would have just as much target practice. A fight between these guys would be absolutely brutal. Don't kid yourself.
Holyfield is too slow/mediocre for prime 60's Ali, he would have to beat Liston twice and Chuvalo before I could take the prospect of him being competitive with Ali seriously
60's Ali beats Holyfield easily Depending on which 70's Ali he would still win but with more difficulty
Ali by wide decision. Holyfield hated taking the lead and having to chase someone down. He doesnt have quick offensive footwork. He gets hit far too much by a long jab. Late 80s evander may keep up with ali for a few rounds but loses wide. Old evander loses wide but manages to make it ugly, land a few bombs, maybe cut ali with a butt and maul a bit. Holyfields only chance is to try to rely on his great timing to disrupt alis rythm, maybe don turner, george benton or emmanuel steward could come up with a norton-esque gameplan but i doubt it
Is this one of your lucid moments? - I agree with you, please don’t leave this realm! Stay with us Boxed!
Prime Ali all day but it would still be tough. Evander was a real warrior with very good inside fighting. Additionally he had vast quantities of steroids pumping through his veins which helped.
Gonna have to disagree with you about holyfields offensive footwork. When he was prime his feet were beautiful. Ali floated like a butterfly, holyfield floated like a hummingbird
Holyfield just does not cut the ring off that well as seen against Holmes and Lewis/Moorer at times. He’ll probably win rounds and could feasibly outhustle Ali for a decision if he worked the body well and picked his spots, but you’d have to say the styles would favour Ali.
Not coming forward. Not continually, sure he could step in for a quick punch but have you ever seen him cut off the ring or chase after against a pure runner? The way tyson did against ratliff, tillman etc? Go after a mover like ibeabuchi did vs byrd? The only guys he managed to pin against the ropes were guys with no legs like old holmes. Prime Ali is not getting caught in the middle of the ring.
