Looking at the Ring mag annual ratings, Chavez and Whitaker were #1 and #2 in 1992 and 1993. The most recent one, however, was in 2008, when Pacquiao and Marquez were ranked #1 and #2.

It is hard enough to judge the best fighters at one weight. Let alone trying to judge all fighters at all weights if they all weighed the same.

Sure it is fun to do, but my point is there are no right or wrong answers here, pound for pound rankings purely are by default personal opinions.

I would say the last time it happened was Chavez/Whitaker.

I think you're right. Many people believe Curry was rated ahead of Hearns around this time, but it wasn't until later in the year he became the consensus #2 (eventually jumping to #1 in the PFP rankings late 1986). When the ranking first came out in 1984, Tommy was usually positioned behind Marv and Pryor and ahead of Pedroza, etc, but I think he jumped to #2 for The Fight.

As mentioned, the last was Pac-Marquez, before that Chavez-Whitaker (1& 2 in Ring, KO, 2 & 1 in BI respectively). Jones wasn't ranked that high before Toney, who was #2 in Ring and climbed to #1 in the KO rankings albeit briefly.

    The question was:

    Last Time the P4P #1 Faced the P4P #2?

If we see Pacquiao fight Floyd, it's pretty hard to argue that that wouldn't be a case of a p4p #1 & #2 fighting each other. When was the last time that happened?

    Chavez/Whitaker were #1 & #2 (after this fight Whitaker was #1 & Chavez #2)
