Question is simple: When and What was the last true "Epic" boxing match? Meaning, a fight between 2 A level fighters that checked every box. Elite Skill. Big Punches. Knockdowns. Drama. Canelo/GGG I was a good fight with close to elite skill, but no knockdowns, no drama, some huge punches. Canelo/GGG II was a great fight with truly elite skill, but no knockdowns, no drama, tons of huge punches but Canelo and especially GGG have iron chins, so they just walked right through them. Loma/Linares was a good fight with elite skill, but Loma kind of still easily won the fight. Maybe it's Chocolatito/SSR I? Wilder/Fury was incredibly dramatic, but when there wasn't a knockdown, the action was far from elite. Kovalev/Ward I or II? Klitschko/Joshua? I am absolutely no expert in the sport and only started really watching 3 years ago. So gimme some suggestions, people!
Usyk-Briedis was a fantastic fight between the 2 best Cruisers in the world. I don’t know about epic because it wasn’t a huge event like a lot of the PPV’s, but man that was a great fight. It just didn’t have a lot of buzz or a huge audience.
That was dubbed as one of the most high octane heavyweight fights in years until AJ v Wlad came along.
