Two very interesting match up's and two that were close to happening. Papp vs Tiger was close to happening until it fell through. And before his retirement Papp looked set for a show down with then Middelweight Champion Joey Giardello. I feel both these fights would of been extremely interesting. Could of the southpaw magic and brillance of Papp beat the gusty high energy solided chined Giardello? And how would of Papp done against the one of the strongest ever Middelweights in Tiger, would he survive Tiger's two fisted attack aswell as he canny counterpunching ability? I often think how interesting fights these would have been. It was a utter shame that Papp's had to ababdon his career due to the Hungarian Goverment. There are many reason's why he was forced into retirement. Speculation ranged from that there was envy of his money success and his refusal to coach the Hungary 1964 Olympic Team. Papp retired with a 27-0-2 record and as a Pro won the European Middleweight Title. As a amature Papp would three Olympic gold medals(1948, 1952, 1956). In retirement Papp served as the Hungary boxing coach for many years, he died in 2003. He was inducted into the IBHOF in 2001.
