How do you think Papp would have faired if hed been allowed to carry on as a pro boxer? For yous who arent familiar with papp he was a hungarian who was the first man to win 3 gold medals in consecutive olympics (48,52 and 56) at middle and light middleweight. he turned pro at the age of 31 and was the first boxer from the soviet bloc to be allowed to. he won a european title before the Hungarian Authorities pulled his pro license. he retired with a pro record of 29-0-2
Papp sure was an interesting prospect. But imagine what M.Ali could've achieved in those years they took his belt cause he refused to join the army.
Is it me, or is there an undercurrent of hostility in the air ? Moran? Do you refer to Frank Moran, or Pal Moran. ps .When calling someone stupid ,it is as well to get your spelling correct.
Papp's name brings a smile. Usually Russian teams with a fighter in the gym are tight-lipped, mirthless, 'n steely, but to my surprise one day walking into Wild Card, they were all smiles and waving to me. I looked around, thinking it was for somebody else, but it went on like that for most of the morning. Eventually, the trainer came over and greeted me with a bear hug. He'd mistaken me for Papp.
