He looked good but turned pro late a d then the commies wouldnt let him fight once he was close to a title shot.
He'd win some and lose some.He used to be ludicrously overated by one poster who called him a top10 p4p man.He could whack a bit with his left ,but the names aren't there on his resume to rate him highly.
What do you base this on? Just curious, as I've never been able to generate any enthusiasm for him based on the casual reading I have done over the years. I'm not trolling or trying to set you up for anything. If you don't want to respond, that's fine too.
He looked very impressive at Europen level but him nearly gassing out against the Gost of tiger Jones doesn't fill me with confidence.
When he was in his prime his amateur fights on film show a very aggressive two fisted fighter who new his craft. That version of Papp would have been a handful for anybody
Most Olympic champions from back then tended to be a force in the pro game if they turned pro at the right time. He was champion 3 times so you would think he would have been been competitive against most. By the time he did turn pro while unbeaten his record largely consists of wins against European level fighters and journeymen several who he struggled against.
