Speaking of Leonard, i remember him making a great finish in the 14th and 15th round during his first fight with Duran. Not enough to pull the decision in his way, but enough to make it relatively close, and in my opinion a true champion's closing, even if it was a losing effort.
Duran coasted those last 2-3 rounds imo.A bit like Whitaker against McGirt the first time around. Both made the fights closer than they should have been.
There is no film of this fight, but Jake LaMotta`s furious rally in the last three rounds of his bout vs Lloyd Marshall made the fight real close on the cards when all was said and done, some observers felt that closing rally should have gotten him the nod but it wasn`t to be as Lloyd piled up an early lead that Jake couldn`t overcome. Had the fight been twelve or fifteen rounds though Marshall would have likely been stopped, he was gassed by the end of the fight. Another great rally that fell short would be Roberto Ramirez vs Jiro Watanabe.... The jap had Ramirez on the deck a total of four times and was winning the fight going away after ten rounds, but Jiro hadn`t trained properly for this bout and by the 12th round Ramirez who was in spartan condition started coming on heavily. In the last round he really gave Jiro a battering and it looked like he was on the verge of going down several times before the bell finally rang to end the fight and save him.
No problemo bud, I`ll try and think of some more fights to name, unfortunately its kinda hard at the moment as I am high as a kite right now, should`ve waited until later before lighting up this fatty, oh well. :rasta
