What are some of the most blatant late stoppages you have seen in boxing? Two come to mind for me: Whitaker/Hurtado and Cooney/Norton. What others are there?

The most blatant of all had to be Paret vs Griffith 3

This was bad even by 1950s standards.

Ike Williams was mean as hell and he actually hesitated to continue pummeling Jack.

Duran-Moore and Duran-Bizzarro were pretty bad. The last knockdown of Bizzarro was so unnecessary.

Simon Brown-Jorge Vaca did not need to go into the 3rd round. It should have been a stopped in the 2nd. That was like the welterweight Foreman-Frazier.

Bernard Benton being pummeled by Alex Garcia was pretty bad.

Arguello Pryor 1 was hard to watch.
Foreman Frazier. Joes courage was unreal
Holmes was waving in Lane to stop Marvis. Frazier Quarry 2 Joe kept waving in Louis who seemed out of it.
Tony Perez had a habit of watching fighters get beat half to death b4 he stopped it.

Ali/Holmes should have been stopped after the refs instructions.

    Boza against Jose Luis Ramirez.

Micky Duff should have thrown in the towell after about the 3rd round. It was obvious Boza was shot.

Lewis v Bruno. Lewis had Frank helpless on the ropes, he was clearly finished. Vann that ref jumped in, looked like he was stopping it but was only giving Lewis a ticking off for holding brunos head while hitting! Second s later Vann decided to finally stop it. Bit slow there was the old ref.

Duran vs Davy Moore [disgraceful ref]

    Ali Vs Holmes [unnecessary pounding]

Holme's vs Texas Cobbs [should have been stopped]

Benni Kid Paret vs Emille Griffith [resulted in death for Paret]

    BTW
Do these refs get psychologically evaluated before being given the job?

That was a disgrace! The problem, might have been that the ref became extremely ticked off because of all the hassle Ali caused him with his antics during the prefight instructions. His corner allowing it to go on that long is also a disgrace.

Joey Curtis was an old school ref who was always known for letting a fight go on too long, such as Gomez-Holmes. Knockdown after knockdown and Holmes with a busted jaw he finally stops it. As well as the Ray Leonard-Pete Ranzany pummeling. But right on the heels of the Mancini-Kim fight, he refs the first fight between Dokes and Weaver and stops it before anyone raises a sweat. He says afterwards, "I don't want a Du Koo Kim on my hands." Had to be one of the most inconsistent refs out there.

    Patterson vs Johansson I
From the first knockdown on, Floyd turned a zombie, serving only punching bag to Johansson. It was an absurd that the referee allowed six more knockdowns.....

sometimes when you have an outcome which is not what was expected, the ref gives the benefit of the doubt. Rarely would you see an early stoppage in a fight where a champion is being beaten up who should have won, and the fight is stopped early. Early stoppages would happen more in a Tyson fight where it is expected. Like the Rudduck fight.
