Current IBF mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (17-0, 12 KOs) scored a hard-fought ten-round unanimous decision over Jason Estrada (15-2, 3 KOs) on Saturday night at the Burg-Wächter Castello in Düsseldorf, Germany. Next up could be a fight for the European title between Povetkin and Universum heavyweight Alexander Dimitrenko This content is protected (29-0, 19 KOs). A purse bid for this battle will be held on April 21. The winner will be named the double mandatory challenger for WBO/IBF/IBO champion Wladimir Klitschko (52-3, 46 KOs). What can you say about the performance of Povetkin? Povetkin didnt impress me in that fight. He didnt have a good fight. Many others see it the same way as I do. What wasnt good about it? It wasnt on a world class level. He still has to train much more if he wants to fight for the world title. He had problems from the very beginning although his opponent was a no-name fighter. When Estrada got tired by the end Povetkin still couldnt knock him out. That has surprised me. His opponent was much smaller than him and I believe if he wants to fight against Wladimir Klitschko This content is protected he should face taller fighters like me. The purse bid for the Euro title clash is on April 21? Yes, thats correct. But Im hoping that he wont avoid me and fight other opponents in order to challenge Wladimir in a world title fight. The EBU has made this decision for the fight. Povetkin provoked Klitschko verbally but he has to prove his quality inside the ring. He has this chance when he fights me Im ready. My trainer Fritz Sdunek and I have taken a close look into the fight.
Both need this matchup to prove their worthiness against Wlad. Povetkin has some solid wins but he hasn't faced any big punchers. From what i've seen, Dimitrenko is a poor man's Wlad with far less power and speed.
One day in the future, the Klitschko brothers will hand over their torch of dominance to heir apparent Dimitrenko.
Should be an intresting fight. Dimitrenko has way improved in his recent fights. Povetkin looks like he is getting lazier.
I would pick both to easily beat fatboy Arreola. I can't figure why HBO is hyping him so much? Arreola is slow, easy to hit, crude, out of shape, one dimensional.
Dimintrenko has really increased his power in his last 5 or so fights. I read an article on another sight where they said it was because he was setting down more on his punches- I think its just because he is physcially maturing. In any event, he seems to be a big puncher now, whereas before he was not.
My answer would be no for the same reason as people are saying Povetkin is not ready- he has not faced a number of good punchers with height. Thenames are out there for either of these guys if they are serious- Jameel Mcline Ray Austin Dominick Guinn Dunin Dokiwari Andrew Golota Shannon Briggs Michael Grant Tye Fields TOS Lance Whitaker And on and on. I like both Sascha's but they need to be preparing if they are serious.
so have u changed ur opinion on povetkin-wlad based on the estrada fight. i would be concerned about his increasing weight. that's a bad sign imo. his defense needs a lot of work.
They has sparred when Klitschkos were fighting under Klaus Peter Kohl's Universum. Vitali or Vlad will beat Dimitrenko, but he has a future. He is still young. I have a signed pictures of he, Fritz, Vitali, Vlad, etc., also gloves signed, some other stuff.
I also have pictures of Vlad and Bonte with my letter about his fight strategies. Notice hod good Vlad did Vs. a prime McCline. This was the very best McCline.
Povetkin is there to get hit. He didn't looks so good against Chambers in the first of couple of rounds, and had Chambers kept up the pace the outcome would of been different. Against Estrada again he was there to Hit; he looked lazy and at times sluggish. He needs to get a different trainer. Id say now Dimetrenko has very good chance to beat Povetkin, now against Wlad or Vitali that's another story....
Why? Someone like Haye who has proved **** at heavy also gets a shot at Wlad's world title. Povetkin as well as Dimitrenko have a proven track record at heavy. The same cant be said about Haye.
