David Higgins claimed that Eddie Hearn offered 80-20, which wasn't enough in his view. Hearn denied that an offer had been made but said that 80-20 would be a good place to start. How much does Parker deserve in your view?
Personally I think it should be more like 70-30. Pulev was going to get 20% despite not having a belt nor an unbeaten record.
70-30 AJ way. AJ is the superstar, brings the money in and is the better fighter. Parker deserves a decent cut for having a belt and decent names on his resume.
Yes, but he was the #1 contender, which gives him that high percentage of the cut. A Joshi vs Parker fight will make more money, but the vast majority is due to Joshua fans.
Yeah, Atleast 70 -30%. Maybe 65-35... You can't be justifying paying a champion less than a mandatory would get.
Parker brings a lot to the table. He is unbeaten with a title among the best few HW's and coming off a win in the UK against a known UK fighter. Yes, Joshua brings more to the table and drives everything. But the average price of a ticket can and is going to be significantly higher against Parker than literally any other HW possible (Wilder or Povetkin, I guess Haye/Bellew too, may equal it). Plus, doesn't he generate some noticeable revenue from NZ PPV's they could work and factor into the deal? It should be worth the risk for Joshua given the prestige and respect that he could gain once again quickly after what he got from the Klitschko fight. Joshua's side should be willing to do 70/30 for the sake of long term gain from it. And I wouldn't blame Parker's side at all for wanting 30/70. For what it's worth, I would be very pleasantly surprised if this somehow happens in the first 6 months of 2018.
20% for Parker will be his biggest payday to date so seems fair, but they're clearly not looking at it like that. And after the Fury fight, Parkers stock has dropped in the UK so they should take it.
If we assume this matches Joshua/Wlad and we see a total purse pot of £30 mill, 20% of that is £6 million or $7.8 mill USD. When you consider Parker made a career high $1.5 mill vs Fury him being offered more than 5 times his biggest payday doesn't seem so bad. It's a fair starting point, anything more would mean Joshua would get less for Parker than he possible did for Takam if he made the $20 mill figure some expected once PPV sales came in. But 75-25 would be what I think will be needed to secure the fight. Parker would get close to $10 million then which would be very hard to turn down.
The least I would accept if I was Parker would be a 66.6/33.3 split with Parker to keep 100% of New Zealand & Australian revenues. There will be three belts on the line with Parker bringing one of them to the table. Parker's camp should be pushing hard for a 60/40 split to begin with. A two thirds / one third split plus all of the Australasian money to Parker represents a reasonable mid-range point between the two positions.
