CARL DILCS Boxed the ears of Charles Adamu in his challenge for the Commonwealth Super-Middleweight title on Friday night only to see the judges get it wrong again and he lost by a split decision. Adamu was just throwing punches like a drunk , missing by miles whilst Dilks kept calm and picked him off with the jab both scoring and hurting the former champion who once went 12 rounds with Carl Frock , not one person has said they thought Dilks lost, including SKY who had him 4 rounds in front and Boxing news who had him 6 rounds in front when is this incompetence going to end ????. JOLLY BOYS RESULTS FROM BOLTON ON 20TH DECEMBER 2009 TREVOR CREWE Lost 40-37 to Terry Carruthers who after an equal first round found Trevor to easy to hit and not throwing punches after getting into position ,therefore making it easy to land. Trevor looked in great physical condition but like his last fight seemed to tire and was loading up with everything. MIKE STAFFORD Won the first round against Billy Boyle and then seemed to quickly run out of gas leaving Boyle to do the most work and win on points. At one stage Mike was looking like he was treading in a pool of water and did not look like he would survive, but he battled on as best he could to see the end out. TERRY FLANNIGAN Improves in every fight and stopped Delroy Spencer in the 3rd with a good body assault which saw the referee jump in , Delroy had already been over. Terry moves to 5-0 and it is time to step him up now. JOSH WARRINGTON The 18year old moved to 2-0 with a controlled display of aggressive boxing winning every round against Pavol Senkos. STEPHEN JENNINGS Beat Yussif Al Hamedi on points in what was a messy contest as expected , but was more about the win than looking good and he got it.
Great year for VIP. For me Quigley, Dilks and Davies were all robbed and Jamie will be back stronger I'm sure next year. One thing... Crewe, probably for me one of the brightest prospects in the country- finishes the year at just 2-2. He was sensational in his first two matches, then was matched errornously against Salari. 3 weeks later they bring him back against Carruthers who, despite his mixed record, is actually fairly impressive in both his creativity and fitness. Crewe needs to find himself a more experienced team. I don't mean switching from Steve Wood but he is clearly not working on his creativity or defence at his current gym. Also his physique is absolutely frightening. He's easily the most muscular domestic fighter i've seen for many years, however there is no way he could generate that physique without taking certain supplements. I'd venture that he is no longer on these supplements since he turned pro but he is still trying to fight like he is. Those with knowlege of the body will attest that the body is only capable of a maximum of 15-20 seconds explosive performance. No matter how fit you are. I wonder if his training team realise this? Is he training his non explosive performance? His ring craft? I find it tragic that a lad of that talent finishes the year at .50..... I still think he has the capability to progress but not the way he is training currently. I could be wrong and he might just not be performing in the gym. I'd be interested to find out.
Shame about Crewe, he is one of the North-East's brightest hopes! Still, I am sure he can bounce back from the defeats.
Cheers for the update Stegsie. Shame to hear about Stafford's loss. Hopefully he comes back stronger.
I saw Crewe against Salari and thought he looked flat and lacking in creativity, and I put it down to an "off night" (or afternoon as it were) for him. However, after hearing of this second consecutive defeat I think there may be a bit more to it. As Jeff says, maybe he needs to look at his training and what's going on there, and maybe possibly consider changing a few things. It would be a pity to see him disappear into obscurity. I'm sure if he gets himself mentally and psychologically right, and trains appropriately, he can come again and do well. Dilks was certainly cheated out of victory by the judges against Adamu. He's a quality boxer and seems a nice chap too. I hope he gets an opportunity again, and this time he gets a fair crack of the whip. The Liverpool boxing scene in the super middles is really hot right now with Dilks, Quigley, Dodson and Smith. Could be a great series of fights to be had here (a sort of Scouse Four Kings!). Would like to see Quigley get a rematch with Smith, as I felt he deserved the nod last time out. Saying that, Quigley-Dodson II would be great too if it was only even half as good as their first epic! For me, V.I.P's hottest prospect from what I've seen is Shayne Singleton. I was very impressed with his last performance, showing much more control and maturity than he did when I saw him on his pro debut. He seems to making big improvements in such little time. He has a very bright future. Saw a few good quality shows from V.I.P this year and I hope they continue their good work and success throughout 2010. Best of luck guys! :good
im going against the grain here but i thought the african won the fight people are listening to the ian darke and co to much, turn down the volume and watch it,it was closer than people think
each to his own billy, the judges thought so too,but from where i was sitting, dilks was the better boxer, caught the other fellow more cleanly, with more punchs, the african chap looked terrible, winging and falling in with his shots, not very good at all:good
Agreed:good Shayne fought with a maturity way beyond his 3 fights in his last fight, and also has a good dig on him. Young 'Shayne the Pain' is deffinately one to watch:yep
