Round 2 Gamez again all nervous energy and movement. Cantu still businesslike and predatory. Gamez jab, jab, move. Cantu springs forward with a double jab. Gamez gets tagged with a few shots as he backpedals into the ropes. Cantu is nearly on top of him by the time he escapes out the side door, moving his hands on the way. Cantu scores with a jab, and lead uppercut. Gamez circles more rapidly, and throws two-handed body shots. They punch together, and wind up in a quickly broken clinch. Gamez is now timing the release of all of Cantu's punches when he gets close, and moving his own arms to basically cause static and muck up Cantu's punching trajectory more than actually trying to land himself. It's fairly effective. Cantu runs in with a 1-1-2 and Gamez moves his head as he runs back into the ropes and catches Cantu with a counter right. 19-19
Round 3 Cantu gores Gamez into a corner, and falls on top of him in the process of punching his way in until the ref calls for a break. Gamez still moving his head well, and still getting outpunched. Cantu with a nice 1-2. Gamez twinkletoeing. Gamez with a shoeshine to the body punctuated by a quick headshot that Cantu wasn't expecting. They wind up punching together in the center of the ring as Cantu gets his feet planted in between Gamez's and Gamez goes down from a series of short punches to either side of the head. Cantu again cuts the ring and gets himself squared up right inside Gamez's space and starts teeing off. Gamez resorts to grabbing and running, in survival mode. 29-27 Cantu
It wasn't any one punch, but there were a few that landed clean before he went down...I'll give the benefit of the doubt.
Round 4 Gamez runs out to meet Cantu and makes a statement with an overhand right that connects. They clinch. Cantu sweeps his right hand as the head of Gamez, who slips and moves. Gamez paws with the jab, half-feinting, and Cantu swats at it. They trade wide arcing body shots as Gamez moves around Cantu. Another quick phonebooth scuffle has Gamez quickly tying up once Cantu starts getting the better. Cantu pushes Gamez into the ropes and throws a bevy of wide punches, only a few landing. Cantu now chasing Gamez fist-first, moving his hands steadily and backing Gamez into the ropes. Gamez tries to flash handspeed at Cantu on the way in and quickly has to cover up as Cantu closes on him. Gamez again winds up on the ropes and eats a sweeping right. 39-36 Cantu
I guess it was only a four-rounder after all as they give each other pounds and a little hug after the bell.
Me too. :yep 39-36 x2 and 40-35 for James Cantu. Hey, a win is a win. His KO ratio falls to 50% through six fights, but something tells me it will go up as he improves technically and grows into his man-strength (which is scary, because he already look very wiry-strong).
