After 175, they're all either light heavyweights who don't want to make weight or heavyweights wasting time in an unnecessary division with a silly name (as if cruiserweight weren't enough, we now have two unnecessary divisions with silly names).
I remember when this clown made that comment - think he got a lifetime ban for crimes against the eye test...
I'll preface this by saying that I've always regarded Okolie as being extremely hard to beat at cruiserweight and my opinion hasn't changed fundamentally. CBS is like a cruiserweight Froch, incredible chin, stamina and determination; not many cruisers can beat Okolie in Britain, hence Briedis and Opetaia didn't want it. CBS also had unique informational advantages in having sparred hundreds of rounds with Okolie and had Okolie's former coach in his corner. In any case, a few @Safin quotes regarding Okolie and my thoughts on them: - March 20th, 2021 - March 20th, 2021 Most of this doesn't need deconstructing but "ridiculous charisma" is as ludicrous as any sentence in this quote. Okolie is one of the most boring interviews in the sport. The guy has zero charisma. Is it a stretch to say that Safin's stated view was more or less: "Lawrence Okolie is the best boxer of all time"? - April 11th, 2021 His view on Okolie's alleged "charisma" took a 180 degree turn in 3 weeks! "Incredibly confident" = the most gutless fighter in the sport, killing himself to make cruiser so he can grapple much smaller men to death in Britain for less money and prestige "Can win bouts in different ways" = throw a shot from long-range and then hug the opponent to death over and over again, for 12 rounds if need be "An accurate, very underrated jab" = a non-existent jab vs CBS Okolie's first recorded amateur bout on Boxrec was in November 2011, which would make Okolie 18 at the time. Okolie is quoted as having started boxing at 17. Not quite the same as "20". https://boxrec.com/en/box-am/789060 https://www.planetsport.com/boxing/lawrence-okolie ??? Okolie has to be his favourite current boxer, a fighter with "ridiculous charisma", who is "destined for greatness", yet he wanted a washed up *Glowacki* to win? And undermine everything he's said about Okolie? Utterly bizarre. Also, if you check Safin's post history he never mentions Glowacki except in connection with Okolie, who he praises consistently. If he was such a big Glowacki fan, why did he never talk about him? Something isn't adding up. Safin alleges Eastern European bias on these forums, yet he (Anglophone, presumably) wanted Glowacki to beat GOAT talent Okolie??? Said in the immediate aftermath of Okolie's 6th round KO win over Glowacki: a fighter who had been KO'd inside six minutes and 30 seconds 21 months prior by Briedis and was never even close to being the No.1 cruiserweight in his prime. - 2021 This makes me seriously wonder whether it was all an elaborate, long-running troll. Either that or Safin is family/friends with Okolie. Even so, it doesn't explain why he was picking Canelo (a heavily politically protected blown-up middleweight or super-middleweight) over an elite cruiserweight, let alone by "absolute destruction". This doesn't relate to Okolie directly but on another level it's vital: why is Wlad's performance against Povetkin "an utter disgrace from start to finish by Klitschko and the referee" but practically all of Okolie's performances not? There are at least half a dozen fights on Okolie's record (I haven't watched all of them) that are just as bad as Wlad-Povetkin for fouling, every Okolie fight vs an opponent with any ability or will to win is a hugfest for as long as it lasts! Why does Okolie get a pass for this in Safin's eyes? Why doesn't every Okolie fight "put him off boxing"?
