Call me crazy, I think the Jack Johnson who beat Jeffries is the perfect style to defusing these swarmer boxers. 15 rounds / old rules long term clinching allowed.

I think Johnson would have more success against Marciano than either of the others, the speed and pace of Frazier and Tyson would present real problems for Johnson who was used to fighting at a much more leisurely pace. To what extent he could adapt his style to combat their," in your face, head on your chest," attack is what this all hinges on imo.

Crazy. Johnson wasn't a puncher, and didn't exactly throw a lot of punchers either. A good swarmer in his prime that could punch would give him a world of trouble and knock him out. We are talking about a guy who was out worked by Marvin Hart.

Would you pick Johnson over any ATG HW champion? Would you pick him over ANY HW champion?

The film on Johnson isn't great so its hard to gague his abilities.

Johnson seemed to fight guys who were throwing one or two punches at a time. Not sure if he could deal with a 6 punch combination from Tyson in 2 seconds.

Sure. Quite a few. Not vs Rocky, Frazier or Tyson. Woud you pick Johnson here?

We just went through Johnson best wins. The average of the board says: A young and often Ko'd early Denver Ed Martin and a teenaged Mcvey were his best wins. A 3rd party opinion and facts.

I'd pick most lineal champions and ALL ATG's to beat those two. Wouldn't you agree? The proven bar is rather low for Johnson, and the film isn't all that impressive. Top 10? No way in my opinion. Head to head, not even top 20 for me.

IMO Johnson's draws and defeats tell a lot about him. Beating top guys in his prime or best years is something that never happened for Jack.

But like I said I'd pick him to beat probably 10 lineal champions. I never counted.

To list a few: Sullivan, Burns, J Sharkey, Carnera, Braddock, Johansson, L Spinks, and M Spinks. Others would be close and could go either way. If he caught them pre prime or post prime many more.

I think Jack with the old rules of long term clinching nullifies their punches with clinchwork.

watch his fight with Jim Flynn

Peppers them with inside shots , he takes a few body punches, but his stomach is well condition as evident from his old footage of him lifting a man on his torso. JJ conditioning was insane for its time. I think he wins a easy decision win. I don't think neither Marciano ,Joe, Tyson have an answer on how to fight inside , jj wins via UD in 15 rounds.

I'd like to see him against Sam Langford, who was much better inside fighter than Flynn and dominated Jim inside H2H. This fight would answer us a lot of questions.

It was the opinion of both John Sullivan, and Clay Moyle, the acknowledged expert on Langford that, prime for prime Johnson beats Sam.

I know that, but I'd like to see HOW Johnson dealt with scientific pressure Langford could provide. Watching him dealing with someone as good as Langford could be eye-oppening. We don't have the best Johnson performances on film, outside of Burns and Jeffries.
