Leonard was way more past his prime than Hagler

    :huh He was?

If true, and since SRL "won", then you're implying SRL was the better fighter, had a better career, or both :blood

It was a pretty big win, but it will always be a bit controversial.

At least it doesn't have the giant asterisk beside it that the Lalonde fight des.

Hagler had practically lost all of his lateral movement from stubbornly running in combat boots his entire career and had begun to morph into a flat-footed brawler as early as Roldan.

Prime Hagler would have destroyed prime Leonard, which is why Leonard stayed behind the microphone, but the faded Hagler was still robbed of a decision from Leonard shoe-shining his arms.

We will never actually know how prime Hagler vs prime Leonard would have played out and that is entirely the fault of Leonard.

yes Sugar Ray Leonard is a better fighter than Hagler easily in the p4p sense.

Prime Leonard had 2 healthy eyes, was active and fought at welterweight.

BS decision. Hagler easily outboxed the boxer.

I wish Hagler got more respect from the so-called experts. He's a contender for p4p n1 in my book. He beat Leonard at his own game, and I think he would have beaten Robinson and Greb too.

it set the mould for my own view of what boxing constitutes in its highest form, glorious finales, screaming crowds and crazy comeback stories set to epic 80s music like Europe's Final Countdown.

Hagler seemed disappointing on the night however, I was waiting for him to open up all night but he just kept plodding.

But even plodding Hagler did enough for a draw, though I have no problem with Leonard scraping it on the cards. Sugars' showboating clearly won him points that night. It wasn't as clear cut as some make out.

Though it felt like the best thing in the world to a kid who hadn't watched anything outside Tyson fights, I can now recognise the many better MW fights since then, and more exciting ones too. But it did feel like 'The Last Battle' back then.

It does change sometimes depending on my mood, but the top 2 are almost always Duran and Leonard for me.:yep

I have to admit, there are times when I am tempted to put Marvelous at the top too.

I don't have my own ATG list as I start to argue with myself before I can get a top 10.:patsch

But yes, rating them 1 to 4 is tough.

I would hope some of the more experienced gentlemen would chime in on this one. They were somewhat 'friends' who kept in touch and I believe it was reported that Hagler told Leonard he didn't really have it in his heart anymore. Hagler fights Mugabi and doesn't have such an easy time and BINGO....Ray challenges Marvin. Ray was a great fighter, but lets call it straight, he knew MMH was close to 35 and dulled by all the wars he'd been in. That said, I had Hagler 115-113. Hagler certainly wasn't impressive but he won the 12th on my card to pull it out.

That was BS! Hagler clearly won! You have to beat the champ.

The mafia sent Hagler to Italy to live in luxury, just so he would stop talking about the boxing mafia in America.
