mate if Kali wanted the shot at Alex their team can put up the purse, don't go on interview & make up **** that alex had chickened out & be straight up & say their were issues on the purse.
Only a couple of weeks ago you reckoned this would be: 'the biggest fight in Aust boxing for many years', and This content is protected Now Kali asking for $50k is nuts atsch
I took that to mean the ballpark figure of what he was asking for. Kali has priced himself out of it at this point in time, for mine.
Not disputing that for a minute Ippy. We told Ash when he came out with - 'This will be the biggest fight in Aust boxing for many years' - that he was just shooting off at the mouth without thinking, again. Plainly, the reality is that the money and interest aren't there for this to be 'the biggest fight in Aust boxing for many years'.
No doubt Mark will be knocking on Alex and Kali's doors to get a slice of the action after he takes care of 545th ranked Ghanian hot shot Ibrahim Marshall on 12/6/11.
the point is, kali ( or whichever fighter it is ) looks at an offer and weighs up is getting paid x amount worth fighting the opponent. beating a fighter who many say is very flawed will not do alot for him on the international scheme of things or rankings wise. but losing would be pretty bad for him at this stage. kali doesn't need a fight like this, alex does. and as far as saying alex was chicken, its boxing, insults, verbal abuse and ridiculing other fighters is just a regular day in the boxing news.
The smoke and mirrors that is Australian heavyweight boxing is if nothing else entertaining. At 41yrs Kali is no Bernard Hopkins. The main prospect on his horizon is retirement.
Well yes and no. The money would be there, just not as much as Meehan appears to be chasing for a domestic fight. I can't really think of anyone outside of Choc and Danny that have come close to that sort of purse for a local fight. On the plus side, Meehan has managed to get himself a fight and activity is key at this point.
Activity has certainly been an issue for Kali. But last look he was still WBA top 10 rated, and at 41, who could blame him for putting his hand out for a payday? Hope you are not trying to tell me you support the 'This will be the biggest fight in Aust boxing for many years' theory though Ippy?
I dont see the issue here, Kali has fought and IMO won a world title against brewster and 50K is too much to ask? Seems to me like a slap in the face. I love watching Alexs fights, always on the edge of the seat action waiting for the big bomb, but trying to lure Kali to a fight for 50K is a joke, no wonder he didnt want any part in the card, not the fight
I think people are a little off with how much money is going around in the local scene these days. Not just the local scene either for that matter, the US seems to have taken a big knock as compared to years gone by.
Certainly the biggest domestic Heavyweight fight in a long time and in a purely local sense, one of the best possible match ups that can be made.
