I am a mayweather fan and honestly I am not looking forward to this either. I have said for a couple of years now that i believe Cotto is damaged goods and that his last three wins really do not do anything to change that.

At the end of the day though who else is out there? It is not FLoyd's fault that his original opponent, Manny Pacquiao, has been ducking him for almost three years now.

the other options had flaws in different ways:

Amir Khan: lost to Peterson took him out of consideration.
Robert Guerrero: Not a big name, resume is lacking
    Canelo Alvarez: No notable victories
Sergio Martinez: Unlikely he could make 150.
Miguel Cotto: biggest name available, but shot.

I'd have JMM vs Cotto at 50/50. I'd say 50/50 Ortiz and Cotto if Ortiz wasnt mentally fragile where I believe he'd probably quit. Mosley vs Cotto would be just as close as the first time they fought in 07.

Only difference is each of these guys brought something that could give Mayweather problems or there were some unknown circumstances from a Mayweather layoff.

There is no layoff this time. Mayweather is primed and ready to go. No let me ask you again, when's the last time somebody hit Mayweather with a left hook from the orthodox stance. Oscar couldnt do it. and thats Cotto's only punch.

Yes. Ortiz was a young southpaw with power.

ESB sure has a short memory. I believe Ortiz was number 1 on everyone's list when he beat Berto to who Floyd should fight should the Pac fight inevitably not happen.

Good stuff. But about half of those were lead lefts. I'm guessing most of his timing shots were late in the fight, when Cotto was much slower after the 2 KDs, which were the results of punches he didn't see.

no, what you think are lead lefts are actaually pac anticipating a jab that cotto got too afraid to throw. just admit you are wrong and move on.

i'd like to see some green guys get a crack, i know it's about PPV buys and what not, but it's the chance that all the top guys have got and sometimes embraced with both hands and should follow suit plus everyone would prob give the green guy no chance and thats the basis everyone watches boxing for to see if he could pull it off especially and undeafeated green guy, Mike Jones, Kell Brook, Ayldin, Canelo it would make me buy!!!

We know what to expect from Cotto, but with someone like Canelo or especially Kell Brook they might have some other gears!

    JUST A THOUGHT!

    It's the best available fight.

Sergio said he won't do it in May
    Berto needs surgery
Ortiz is a nose breaking ho
    Canelo is still green
    Guerro :blood
Khan just came off a loss
    Peterson is fighting Juan

and then you got a bunch of Top Rank fighters

No, some of them were lead lefts. But anyways, it is a bit surprising and i didn't really notice that. But what's also true is that Pac's speed and punches from all angles overwhelmed Cotto.

they were all straight lefts, i didnt see him hook any of them. you are correct about the speed and angles, which hardly disproves the topic of disscussion.

And to be honest, I didn't think I'd get excited by this fight, but I kinda am. Plus this would make Floyd the number 1 rated Light Middleweight and Welterweight.

(While Pacquiao drags Bradlely up to Welterweight)
