Least excited I've been for a Floyd Mayweather fight since Baldomir

Even before Cotto was 'damaged', I didn't think he would beat Mayweather. He's a solid boxer, but nothing beyond that, really. He might have more of a chance against this less mobile, older version of Mayweather, but I can't imagine him winning.

Wonder if Mayweather will stay at 154?

Tune up in Nov/Dec, then either Sergio or Canelo next May 5th, then retire.

Pre Margairto Cotto would've been Floyd's toughest fight ever imo. I still see it as a dangerous fight, but Floyd will win.

 

To be honest, I think the fact that Cotto was being given instructions by Joe Santiago had a lot to do with that. Based on what I saw in the fight, Santiago was only telling him to jab in the corner. Which is all Cotto did in the fight. He threw hooks occasionally but most of his punches were jabs.

 

Mich, don't worry about it. The ***** Pacquiao is a hoe ass clown. Cotto is a good stay busy fight. If I were Floyd, I'd try to give the fans what they want one more time negotiating with the ******, and if it's a no go, then I'd say **** Pacquiao forever!

 

I'm not a Mayweather fan. But he will deserve props for winning this fight. Cotto would beat every guy Floyd has ever fought.

 

Look at it this way, other then Cotto there was only Canelo and facing two young guys not ready in a row wouldn't have looked to good.

So the obvious choice was cotto, The hate for cotto would have bot been as bad then for canelo. Especially since cotto is ranked higher at 154...

in a way your right. floyd will school cotto and probably stop him down the stretch.

but in another way this is the 3rd most perfect fight for floyd behind only pasc at ww and sergio at mw.

 

Of course your not excited. Cotto is a Pacquiao leftover and your worried he might actaully give Floyd a tough time.

Anyway, I'm stoked for this fight. I cant wait.

 

Cotto looked good against Margarito, though. He's strong at 154, has a monster jab, and throws great combinations. Three things that you need to win against Mayweather. I think it's a great fight at 154.

 

He's not gonna please everyone. He already deserves criticism for not making enough of a sacrifice to make the fight with Pac happen. Reality is he shouldn't even fight his 2nd best option. However I do believe that option is the BEST 2nd choice there is available.

The upside to fighting/beating Cotto:

-PPV attraction
-Cotto just came off a big win (nobody talks about Alvarez beating Cintron)
-Cinco De Mayo. I know Cotto isn't Mexican but I'm sure the Mexicans will root for Floyd since Cotto did beat up a Mexican in his last fight.
-If it's at Cotto's BEST weight Floyd can say he didn't drain him like Pac did. I believe this is the "mystery" you're looking for.

If Floyd had signed up to fight Cotto right after Miguel struggled or had came off a loss then I would very much hate the fight. I'm gonna take an educated guess and say come early or mid April you'll suddenly be excited about the fight.

Then, after he retires undefeated, try to put him into entertainment ventures and such with other Haymon-related entities (50 Cent, ...).

What people have to understand here is that, much like for Pacquiao, there is a post-boxing plan for Mayweather. The key for Floyd to keep his "heat" with his fan base is to stay unbeaten. Then, it's easier to try to build the myth around him that Haymon seems to want to do.

Makes sense.
