Lets try and keep it to at least decently known fighters. No one's going to debate that Ali and Archie Moore were extremely intelligent and savvy. But what fighters were simply... dull? Mentally, that is. Whether it's a real actual lack of intelligence, ring craft, creativity, ability to change gears and tactics...
I guess to qualify hear you have to loose a lot of fights you could have won. Andrew Golotta deserves consideration.
Yes, I'd have to nominate Golota for the honors, however, I think it's more a matter of some sort of insanity, perhaps generated by fear than of a lack of intelligence. I say this in refence to his effective handling of Riddick Bowe in two of their encounters, both times before he "snapped".
Well in that case maybe Jerry Quarry should be mentioned. Many people thought that if he boxed against Frazier and took the fight to Eliis he would have won both times, but he did it the other way around.:good
If we're going by "fighting intelligence" rather than what most psychologists define as IQ, then i'd nominate Sergei Liakhovic. His favorite punch is the right hand to the body. It worked great for him against Brewster, but Briggs (who has very fast hands), countered it to perfection with heavy left hooks. So he hurt Sergei that way early. But because Briggs is slow as ****, he does make it to the 12th while being ahead on the cards. So what does he decide to do during the last 30 seconds? Try some more of his right hand to the body, and again, he catches a flush left hook, is staggered, goes down.... gets up but gets knocked out of the ring in the final seconds and loses his belt because he was so stupid to obey his disfunctional punching habit.
Purely based on an IQ measurement, I'd say Tommy Hearns. The IQ measure stuff can be debated of course, but I really feel Hearns was one of the more mentally "dense" fighters. He depended on a degree of physical attributes.
If we are talking from IQ; personal experience says it would take alot (or indeed very little) to beat one Christopher Livingstone Eubank(s)...
I've chosen Hearns... for whatever reason in the intelligence department If you feel your guy is more dense mentally, perhaps I need to rethink mental ability.
What the hell are you even talking about? Hearns was a fantastic boxer. Enough of your inane ramblings, seriously, you're a headache.
