Could somebody on here with superior boxing knowledge to me please answer me this question?

What is the shortest notice anybody has successfully taken a world title shot on?

And, whats the shortest notice a Brit has successfully taken a world title shot on?

    Thanks.

From what I remember Lewis was supposed to fight Kirk Johnston of Canada, but Kirk pulled out with an injury. I think it was Vitali that came in at late notice to save the show.

Did'nt the champion fail an aids test and Robinson stepped in with about 36hrs to fight time or something? It was the geordie lad Davidson who was fighting for the title...How the **** did that happen?

Yep, Palicios (or summat like that!!) failed an AIDs test a couple of days before and Davidson needed a new opponent to fill the date. I can't remember if Davidson was a Geordie, a Mackem but he was from that neck of the woods.....;)

Remember being gutted when Robinson stopped Hoko in the last rnd. Was convinced Hoko would break him in two. Certainly a pre Vargas Hoko would.

Bonecrusher came in real late to beat Tim Witherspoon.

Two fighters famously came in from the audience in big fights, although neither won.

Charley Green came in to fight Jose Torres as a 15 minute sub in a non title fight in the 60s.

And in the 90s, Tim Tomashek came out of the crowd to fight WBO Champ Tommy Morrison.

Not as short a timespan as Steve Robinson, but a novice Junior Witter unsuccessfully challenged Zab Judah for his IBF 140 title on 5 days notice
