depends, i mean if you mean by no natural gifts, that no one thing stands out, that in other words they are well rounded some I could think of would be Hagler Holyfield Hopkins Barrera They all dont really have an amazing tribute like natural speed, huge power... they do all have solid chins (with hopkins never really having to been tested much) but other than that they seem to be well rounded
Completely different. Raw talent is something you have or you don't. Skill is something that can be improved upon and developed with dedication and practice.
I would say Hopkins, cuz the ****er has nothing that really stands out about him, he's old, overly cautious, but he has strategy. The strategy of a general.
Chavez was actually a very brilliant inside fighter. If you see what he is doing its very different from Hatton. Though he is very close he is watching everything and from every angle. He is very accurate and throws his punches only at openings. He can go from the outside straight into the inside with one punch in which he seems to launch his whole body like a little missle. He was also good at getting superior boxers to throw away their game plans and fight his fight. Oh yes, his defence was great as. The best place to look for his defence is when he is inside as well. He took leather to get inside but once there he was deadly. A lot of people lately have only appreciated the Whitaker/Jones/Mayweather style of outside elusive boxing. What a boring place boxing would be if that was the only style.
Thomas Hearns. The dude has no right to have been as good a fighter as he was. Physically he looks and moved like a Giraffe and had very little natural sporting prowess. Manny has said often that Hearns was never a natural and had to learn everything from scratch. What he did say was that he didnt give a **** in the ring.
The question isnt if he was good. The question is "Gifted". To say someone is good doesnt mean they have to be naturally blessed. Hearns wasnt naturally blessed. I can see it, and Manny certainly believes it.
So tell me which of these is not a gift: Height & reach advantage? Sure thats something that can be improved? Blazing handspeed? Handspeed sure can be improved but not to the point Hearns had it. p4p atg power, power is something youre born with, you can improve power but again, not to Hearns p4p all time level. The only thing Hearns had improved was his skills...but even the thread says least skilled. So in Hearns we have one of the most skilled boxers ever combined with the most freakish natural gifts ever with height, power & speed yet you still managed to name him as the least skilled/gifted ATG ever? WOW! Just because Manny didnt think he had natural talent doesnt mean he didnt. Perhaps when he first came in he had to be nurtured and developed but the potential was always there, unlike many who no matter how much they train, will never be as tall as hearns for their weight, never carry that power and never carry that speed. As the poster above said, you may aswell have said RJJ...or Tyson for that matter.
