As an example i want to use a favourite of mine who isn´t a great fighter but who i want to bring up from time to time to prevent him from beeing forgotten. Gustav 'Bubi' Scholz was called to weak and small for boxing when wanted a license and so he fought without one till he proved he wasn´t and went on to go from lightweight to lhw, winning the German ww and mw title, the European mw and lhw title and got a shot at Harold Johnson on the way. Despite beeing called to weak and small - and infected with Tuberculosis - he ended up with an 88 - 2 - 6 record with 46 KOs, never stopped and one of his losses he had to lose to get a shot at the European mw title. While not blessed with exceptional speed, power or anything else his southpaw stance, solid workrate, good basics, exceptional stamina, ring generalship and especially will enabled him to become an idol in the late 50s/early 60s in Germany and a symbol of the rebuild.

So, who do you think would qualify?

Two guys who lacked real talent but won titles with grit would be contemparies and rivals Jeff Harding,and Dennis Andries.
