What a fight we have on July 17 - Russia's two best cruiserweights - both happen to be world class fighters - will take on each other to decide who should challenge WBO 200lbs champion Marco Huck.

Denis Lebedev, a highly skilled and powerful southpaw who's been around for quite some time but had a long break between 2004 and 2008, is best known for beating Enzo Maccarinelli's face to a pulp in the UK, and was equally impressive in his recent 2 wins as well. He's a young 30 year-old with a record of 20-0 (7-0, 7KOs since his return) and should be the favorite despite Alexeev's team staging the show in Germany, given the following circumstances.

Southpaw KO specialist Alexander Alexeev looked to be the goods at 200 based on his very impressive run up to the world title try, which he lost in my pick for 2009's biggest shocker. Alexeev showed an excellent skillset, superb handspeed, two-handed power and an awesome lead left, but ran into a very tough Argentine who wouldn't break down, and in the end, Alexander did. AA was a successful amateur (world champ in 2005) but showed stamina issues after a dominant start vs. Victor Ramirez, who took everything early to take over and break the Russian down, ultimately stopping him in the 9th. Alexeev didn't look too good in his return fight but is now 3-0 since the loss and will fight on his promoters terms.

It's an excellent fight. The two very well schooled southpaws with KO power should give us a quality match-up and a worthy winner to challenge Marco Huck.

This will be a very good fight. Tough to see how this won't end in a KO.

I have been wondering when finally some thread about that fight will show up
I rate Alexeev quite high that guy is really good actually. He could also make some noise at hw one day imo
and if he learnt from his loss he should be able to beat Lebedev convincingly.

Bone, love the avi! This was my first time seeing the KO. Damn! dude pulled a half ass Trevor Berbick LOL. IMO Huck is still very green. Lebedev looked great. I can see Huck-Lebedev as being a barnburner!! I still can't see anyone beating Cunningham. Whats up with USS anyway??

I noticed that as well. From the 2 rounds of watching Lebedev I'm half tempted to say hes more skilled than Huck. Lebedev also seemed pretty loose for an important fight, bobbed and weaved. Not your typical upright Euro style. I like him:good
