Well, with Lebedev's KO of Maccarinelli, it looks as if Haye's raison d'etre is looking even thinner. He really does not have the quality wins to be calling out a Klitscshko. Maccarinelli should retire. With four staoppage losses against mixed opposition, he just does not have the beard to be world class. He can walk away from boxing having acheived more than most fighters in winning an ABC crown. As for Lebedev, good for him. Dude also has a good win over Eliseo Castillo, so he's got my attention.
When you consider that you've got people like Chris Arreola being seriously considered as opponents for either Klitschko brother, than Haye's position as linear cruiserweight champion is obviously more than enough to qualify. Maccarinelli has nothing to do with it, Haye took the fight because Frank Warren offered him a pile of cash to do so and it represented an easy nights work. His plan was to move to heavyweight after beating Mormeck.
I get your point- it is just that yeat another KO beating draws into focus that this was not such a great win for Haye, and he really does not have mnay others besides Fargomeni, Mormeck and Barret, all equally suspect in their own way, to hang hi hat on.
Well, no. Clubbfigher Lee Swaby beat him to it. Let me make clear, I like Haye as a crusier. But he has not proved that he belongs in an ABC eliminator at heavy, much less jumping in line to challenge a Klit.
Haye never rated Enzo and has never used his name to propel himself into heavyweight picture. He's always said Mormeck was his marquee scalp.
But unfortunately for him, fans of ths sport rate him on his overall record. Leon Spinks one beat Muhammed Ali, Bill Fox once beat Jake Lamotta, and Pat Lawllor holds victories over both Wilfred Benitez and Roberto Duran. So it is up to the fan to decide, not the fighter as one win does not make a fighter, and a fighet has no right to ask us to look at one win over others.. Haye's best wins are agaisnt Fragomeni, Bonin, Mormeck, Maccarenelli, and Barret, None of them prove taht he is ready to take on Wlad, but one of the top five looks even less impressive. Nice avatar though.
Whilst I never rated Maccarinelli all that highly, the Haye loss shattered him and the Afolabi loss must of completely destroyed him (He did actually look good for the first 6 rounds or so against him, however lack of conditioning and sparring proved conclusive!). Last nights loss proves nothing regarding Haye. Maccarinelli is a shot fighter now, his body is still up for the job, but it's clear his head isn't, the confidence is completely gone. He needs to either retire, or take a lengthy break and start again, preferably the former. On the subject of Haye, I don't think he is ready, or particularly deserving, to step up to challege Vitali or Wlad. However he does at least bring some excitement to the fight game. I think Vitali will have no trouble disposing of him.
haye is the best fighter both klitschkos has met til now, hes fast, he's tough, hits hard and presses the action. thats what you need to beat both klitschkos and he has it. vitaly will be the easy one though, he's old, slow and ready to go..
I don't see too many others that have done a whole lot that would be considered much further up the list than Haye. That is what you are forgetting, not just what Haye's done himself but in comparison to other guys. I think Povetkin deserves his shot before Haye, but beyond that Haye certainly deserves his name in the hat.
