hmm, interesting question. I don't think Monzon was in too many great fights but Foster had the reach, style and power to bring out the best in him and force him to take some chances. That said Foster by late round TKO

 

A bridge to far for Carlos IMO.

 

I think monzon punched hard enougth to knock foster out, monzon was in talk to fight foster, and then conteh any one know them fights didnt happen

 

I don't see Monzon lasting for long.

 

Watching Carlos against Briscoe....I noticed Monzon moved away a lot.

Foster will have a long left jab which will reach Monzon....then when Carlos slows down the heavy hooks and right hands will start to get in.

Foster by TKO in 8 rds, after a fairly competitive fight.

 

What Lederman doesn't know is that Monzon would be in a state similar to his tossed wifes at the end of this one.

That's why the weight classes were invented, for a fighter to determine where he is best suited. Monzon wasn't meant to be a lightheavyweight, just as Foster wasn;t meant to be a heavyweight. The difference is Foster didn't have the wisdom to "know his place, what his body..his frame was suited for. So many of the greats didn't..and paid for it over and over. Some fighters were fortunate to be able to find a "home" division that accomodated their frames, some matured to a point physically where a rise to another weight class was just what the doctor ordered, and others, like Monzon and Hagler, for instance knew better to make the climb, and stayed to dominate their chosen division. Sometimes their decision, to move up or stay put affected their respective legacies.

Foster woulda been the 1st to stop Monzon. I dont think it would be a stoppage either. Foster woulda knocked Monzon OUT.

 

Monzon is SOOOOOO overrated and there is a reason he never moved up despite being a very BIG MW/ Foster would have KICKED THE LIVING **** OUT OF HIM. Monzon KNEW he didnt have a chance at LHW and thats why he played it safe fighting ex WW's and not so great MW's/ Foster by KO before round 6 or by 15 rd decision if Monzon bitched out and tried to survive rather than actually fight.

I think you are basically pitting the best ever H2H middleweight against one of if not the best ever H2H light heavy. Its really two guys on par p4p, but when you match them together the size and power advantages tips the balance well in truly in Foster's favor.

Stylistically to..Carlos did his best work on the outside..I cannot recall him ever dealing with someone who held such a height advantage over him coupled with an almost comparable technical and tactical ability...add to that just scary power aswell.

I consider Carlos the better ring general...but the gulf isnt that big and its effectiveness would have been diminished by the size issue;
