You could see quite clearly he wasn't interested in continuing and then he comes out with this rubbish. BITTER Lee McAllister last night accused referee John Keane of being too keen to stop his British title fight and hand John Murray victory. The Aberdeen Assassin reckons the English official was so worried the Mancunian's grip on the belt was slipping he called a halt to proceedings at the first available opportunity in Wigan on Saturday. McAllister was ready to fight on, having got to his feet after a crunching body shot in the eighth, but was amazed to see the referee wave the fight over. He said: "John caught me with a good shot but I thought the referee was far too quick to stop it. I was giving the home fighter major problems and he was trying to save his man from getting beaten. "I'm sure had the referee not stopped it, I'd have got on top again." Complacent McAllister played into the hands of the champion by exchanging blows at close range. He said: "I was beating him easily and felt so relaxed and got complacent. I'm not devastated, just annoyed I didn't win." McAllister is convinced he will be British champion and is already seeking another big fight. He said: "I can't wait to get into the ring again." Manager Tommy Gilmour also thinks his man will rise again. He said: "Because Lee felt it was well within his grasp he became a wee bit complacent and let Murray back into the fight. "We are going to put him on again in March time but it will be against a top European and not a journeyman because we need to bring him on." Undefeated Charlie King faces Stuart Green for the vacant Scottish lightweight title in Glasgow tonight. Thought he came across ok after the fight and totally ruined it with this shite. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/...-stoppage-loss-to-john-murray-86908-21053419/
Must have been misquoted or something.. or was quoted while he was talking himself up to show he was ok straight after the fight. He totally accepts he was beaten fair and square.
Havent really bothered to give ma 2 cents but it was an entertaining bout. He did well in the beginning, i was surprised at his accuracy, yes he missed a lot but he threw a lot. It was the first time seeing Murray live and after all the talk up on these boards etc i cant say i was that impressed. Sure McAllister made him look bad and was awkward but he just walked at him in straight lines and not really throwing a lot. Probably because McAllister was constantly moving and popping. Then the moment McAllister got tired, Murray came to life. He certainly has his foot in the door now but he seemed so carefree it was spooky, seemed like he was treating it as an exhibition. He is certainly fearless, standing there in front of Murray, though i think it was a mix of both fatigue and confidence. He was teeing of on Murray regularily from what i remember. Well he certainly impressed me and i cant say Murray did but he got the job done. The bodyshot, was a beauty. McAllister took it well i thought, he was up quick but he looked like he wasnt interested a bit and yes i reckon it was stopped way too early. He would of kept going though i reckon if the ref had grabbed his gloves and wiped them. Anyways, as much as i was frustrated at him i still enjoyed seeing him and hope to again Well done Murray also :smoke
I hope thats a misquote, I thought it was a correct stoppage and McAllister seemed to take the loss very well in the post fight interview (and accept the stoppage was correct)
You could see when he was getting up he didnt wana carry on,it was a great shot by Murray in a decent fight.Murray was getting outboxed for the first few rounds but prevailed in the end.Can see why he said he would probly fight lawton or castle. With khan going against MAB and thaxton fighting romanov again on itv.Murray can fight the winner of lawton vs castle and try and get khan or jono next.
HH, from this I take it that you haven't seen a recording of the fight? McAllister was down on his hands and knees, looked across to his corner, shook his head as though to say that he had had enough and got up at nine. He did not object in any way when the ref called off the fight.
I live in Scotland and buy the Record, but not for its boxing coverage coz it's usually shite! They never even had a reporter at ringside to cover this British title fight. Buy the Scottish Sun, read Jim Black, he writes from ringside. He was in Middlesboro on Friday for Simpson and Wigan on Saturday for McAllister. I don't always agree with his opinion but it's always honest. The stuff in the Record was sensationalist shite, prompted probably by McAllister telling some journalist on the telephone "I thought I could have gone on" Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!
He was more than happy to take the stoppage, and it was the right time to end it - he was shipping punishment. As for the complacency, well I'd call it stupidity. Doesn't matter how well you're fighting, you don't let a bruiser like Murray hit you at will. It changed the fight. Fatigue played a part too I'm sure but he needs to work on his mentality.
It's easy to say this after the event. He's probably forgetting the pain he was in at the time, because he didn't look like a man that could or wanted to continue.
I watched the fight and "got up quick" was maybe the wrong term. Meant he had a reaction which is expected, stayed down, used the count, looked at his corner as you would expect, and was up at 9. Thats what was intended regarding the "up quick enough" and aye as i said he didnt seem interested. Basically, he wasnt writhing about the ring in pain and recovered "quick"/quite well considering the punch. Did that clear it up :hi:
I suppose...other than you didn't mention that when he looked at his corner he shook his head and seemed to mouth "no", what that means in the context of the knockdown I don't know, they may have been indicating that he should stay down. Also, he didn't seem either shocked or upset when the ref stopped the fight....that goes beyond not interested.
He got cocky and took a cracking body shot, he couldn't fight on and was obviously glad of the stoppage, blind denial like this is not going to do his career any good at all. Accept you lost (for whatever reason) to a better man on the night and move on. Otherwise you will end up looking like Alex Arthur atsch
