Looking great just now, hard week sparring with Bradley Saunders then just a matter of staying sharp till fight time. I think you will see the best performance from Ricky on the 10th March AND STILL!
I'm one of them The newspaper article is pretty good IMO, both Gilmour and Maloney are right on the money. At the first serious sign of grief he quit. Why not come out for the 8th and throw a few bombs, perhaps get stopped in the process but at least go down swinging. Was the weakest surrender I've seen in a boxing match from a so-called champion.
Here's a question Billy, how will Ricky fare now that he's not the underdog and is finally getting his due respect, with some fighters they thrive on the pressure of being the underdog and Ricky it seems was one of them?
Just watched this now. McAllister is a joke. Most obvious quit ever. Alex Arthur is very good in the studio. Works well with Mcguigan.
I know Neil Simpson very well, former Coach, and nice man. Was Cooper he was after, not Durrant, as said it was his worst moment on football, and he lost the desire to play after that. Two careers were ruined that day. Simmy had a moment of madness after being wound up about something very dear to him, and reacted. There years of singing about it still affects him yet! And to be fair, he's famous for being a key player in winning a European Trophy with the Dons, and scoring in a super cup final:deal
Completely agree. Very, very, very good boxer. One of the smartest counter punchers in the british game for many a year.
It's not really an excuse though is it? The fact he wanted to end Coopers career as opposed to Durrant doesn't make it any better. Obviously I don't know what was said to him, but I doubt anything said as a wind up on a football pitch can justify trying to end another persons career. Simpson should have had criminal charges brought against him for that challenge. What he did was infinitely worse than Duncan Ferguson did.
Thats more like it you wee fud. Finally managed to pull yourself off mummies tit and became self dependant.Learn from this,no more whinging and greeting aboot a perfectly good tackle and a perfectly good city small baas and you can become a real man.:good
Lee mcallister is an absolute joke!!!! He is in tonights paper saying he had to quit for his family, he didnt want to be stretchered out or get brain damamge...... I have seen amateurs take bigger punches! it's about time he has been found out! he has no power, no style, no footwork, and no fitness!!! he is a bottler pure and simple, he bottled john murrey fight and bottled this one, even audley harrison has more bottle than him, his younger brother looked better, had more power and acted more mature during his interview, at the end of the day you cant box 12 rounds training out of an amateur gym!!!!! it wont surprise me if he sais he has a major elbow injury and never boxes again...........an injury that never happened.............DELUSIONAL
I for one won't watch him again after Saturday night - what happened in the ring was bad enough, but the interview he gave afterwards made it feel like half an hour of my life I'll never get back. Ego out of proportion to talent is never fun to watch, imho.
To be fair he probably would face criminal charges in todays game, but did Roy Keanue face criminal charges for Haaland, did Souness on the Icelander? It wasnt what Cooper was saying, but thats enough about it. At the end of the day Durrants career was severely blighted, and we'll never know if he would have become a Derek Ferguson or a top top player.
Tommy Gilmour has some fairly harsh words for McAllister..... Taken from today's Daily Record TOMMY GILMOUR last night admitted Lee McAllister missed his chance to hit the big time – and should forget about a rematch with Denis Shafikov after his European bid ended in disaster. The Aberdeen Assassin had dreams of becoming world champion with Sir Alex Ferguson ring-side. But McAllister was sensationally forced to pull out of his Euro bid at the start of the eighth round. After telling Peter Harrison in his corner he couldn’t go on against the undefeated Russian, McAllister later revealed he had been promised a chance to go to war again. But his manager Gilmour was heartbroken by what he saw in Aberdeen on Saturday night. Gilmour said: “There is no chance of a rematch. You’ve probably more chance of winning the lottery. “Lee had better look somewhere else. He is still Commonwealth light-welterweight champion. “I am absolutely gutted because it was his last chance of making it into the big time and now that’s disappeared.” McAllister said an injury to his hand had forced him to throw in the towel against Shafikov. And after becoming the Russian’s 28th victim, he said: “He offered me the rematch and I accepted so I will take the rematch back in Aberdeen. He is quite happy to do that. We’ll have to see how the injury is. “He has to defend his title against a No.1 contender so we will get the rematch on.” But Gilmour still wonders if his man could actually have gone on against Shafikov. He said: “It was there to be won. Even at the stage he quit, one judge had him three rounds behind and the other two had him two rounds behind so that is not an insurmountable margin. “It was still there very much to be won and I just don’t know what to say. He could have gone on and he could have been huge. “He said his hand was just too bad to go out. It was Lee who made the decision, the pain was too much. I was proud and for it to end the way it did has left me flat. “It is not for me to say how much pain somebody is suffering. Boxing’s a dangerous game but I am just disappointed in the ending.” McAllister will sit down with his manager this week. Gilmour believes he could launch his comeback against Willie Limond or Barry Morrison in an all-Scottish fight and added: “I know Barry would like to fight him and Willie would like to fight him for the Commonwealth title. “Maybe that’s Lee’s next fight – but he has to do something to re-establish himself as a credible champion.”
