KC, My gifs do not make my argument, they are visual aids I select to emphasize a particular sequence or point that stands out to me. What is the problem? KC, they're extrapolating to some global delusion, they think they are making brilliant points. The fact is whether they admit it or not Oma, was highly ranked at the time, and he earned it. If God was a fighter they would still find something to howl about, so let them "whine" at the moon. Keep posting your gif's I and others like them, if they want to posts other gif's let them, more to see. Seamus, A couple gifs do not a convincing argument make. Maybe not to you to me and others we have no problem Extrapolating Seriously, snippets of action can not be extrapolated to some global conclusion. That's just hack sportscenter highlight reel reasoning. I may be wrong but I believe the majority viewing them enjoy them, and I am one of them. Please, please put down your Thesaurus/dictionary and say what you're going to say like the rest of us mortals. I mean really, "extrapolated to some global conclusion". sigh!
You pointed out a glaring truth in this forum, few, very few understand boxing, if they cant find an article that tells them what to think, they make these clueless posts which at times are laughable. Keep posting nevermind the riff-raff
Greb was a novice at the time not TGOAT,he also lost to nobody Hooks Evans at the time what does that prove?
That just doesn't happen today. Even with prospects that don't become. Yet almost all the old ATGs have such blotches on their record. Losses to guys with bad records.
Greb was a novice at the time not TGOAT,he also lost to nobody Hooks Evans at the time what does that prove?
The difference is Armstrong, Leonard, Greb lost to obscure fighters when they themselves were obscure novices.Oma was losing to nobodies when he was in his "prime" and I use the word loosely! Oma also went for a swim in some fights. Two guys here are building him into something he never was,one out of sheer bloody minded obstinancy ,with the other, its a vanity project a chance to feel superior in his own little cocoon.
Where is Gamboas loss when he was a novice? Yet Kid Gavilan had THIRTY losses? Thirty?! Where is Pavliks obscure loss when he was a novice? Crawford, Golovkin, Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto. I'm just naming random modern guys that are good. Literally nobody halfway good has losses to these 39-18 record fighters.
Armstrong had fought a week earlier and he was taking on a middleweight.Show me a run of losses on Armstrong,Greb's or Leonards resume when they were prime! You're equating Oma with these guys to make a point and you're completely off your trolley! Oma was a lazy fighter who managed to be a fleeting contender in a poor era ,he was also not above," arrangements" he was neither a great boxer , nor a hard hitter, and he wasn't very durable. How did Armstrong lose to Al Iovino?
You're telling me 1. Kelly Pavlik was a better novice than Greb, and therefore was able to keep a cleaner record? 2. Fighting in back to back months often has no negative bearing on your chances of winning?
Lol that's my whole point man. I'm not even talking about just Oma right now. I'm talking about how old school fighters have abnormally obscure losses on their records. And my theory is based on how often they were fighting. Almost all these obscure losses happen when they fight twice in 30 days.
Nineteen of Gavilans losses were when he was on the way down. And many were to good fighters and by close decisions Oma lost a bunch of fights to nobodies when he was prime! There is no correlation between them!
What happens when you take away Oma's losses from fights where he fought within 60 days of another fight? His 28 losses go down to 3 losses. He would have a record like 40-3 today. Just like every other modern top contender.
Oma lost fights to men who had the same schedule as himself yet they did not post losing runs! Armstrong's schedule was insane! He was fighting on a weekly basis and fighting two divisions above his natural weight! Oma was an ill-conditioned slug who lost fights because he couldn't be bothered to train or live the life of an athlete. Simply no comparison.
