Aye, Euro-level essentially just means , to my anyways, fighting for the European title - regardless of quality.

Ive got no qualms with him fighting Joe Murray and Ste Smith again win the lonsdale outright especially if he fights regularly. He can be out again fairly soonish after xmas no disrespect to Simpson but that wasnt a taxing night for Selby.

I think there is a decent Euro guy holding the belt at the moment because he has kept Smith/Simpson/Lindsay away so he must be half decent i guess.

EDIT Just looked he lost to Truscott a few years ago.

Two great wins for the boy against Smith & now Simpson, i'd like to see a rematch with him and Smith and as Bunce said it makes financial sense etc so it will happen but on this occasion i'd heavily favour Selby, looking like a great talent.

Are you still angry about him standing over Smith's unconscious body?

 That sounds ****ing savage, Selby's a G he got that stone cold mentality. I'm sure he's from romany stock he likes the hunting, has ferrets and has the look of a Romany lad. He don't seem the brightest but his future is if he progresses.

Fine win on paper for Selby but I do fear its flattered him a bit as Simpson looked a pale shadow of himself in last nights fight... for reasons I can only guess at, i.e maybe he was drained, or has simply aged overnight. It just wasnt the wee simmy we all know in there!!!

Not Selbys fault though, he had a job to do and did it in style so good luck to the kid & he was classy in the post fight interview giving Simmy his respect:good

I think he is from Romany stock, I think Buckland is too.

He was good last night, I felt he could've feasibly been given every round(not that I did as such), Simpson kept his guard tight and made a couple of rounds close by not letting much through, but in the process nullified himself offensively to the point where he just made it a dull round that could have gone either way.

I doubt he'll get to genuine ''world'' title level though, I think European might be his ceiling to be honest. He just strikes me as a guy who won't be able to cope with decent counter punchers(or even just a very good mover) that are a level or two above domestic level. He cloaks his right hand well with the left when he has a guy trying to close him down, but when it's him that has to do the pressuring he has a tendency to awkwardly shimmy forward while flicking out a left hand with nothing on it. It was asking to be taken advantage of last night.

That said he still has ages to improve most facets of his game, it's not like he's got a style like Amir Khan that dictates he has to get everything done before he hits his late 20's when his agility begins to dwindle. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him in against a guy like Kris Hughes next(pending on how the Frampton fight goes I suppose), just to have him in with someone who might be able to present him with something different from a stylistic aspect.

This should be a developmental period for him, no point in him jumping in the deep end already when he can make himself a much better fighter in the meantime.

Good point, I seem to remember Simpson having some success over the top of Selby's jab with the right hand. As you say, a well-versed (or somewhat versed) counterpuncher could really make him pay for that.

Yeah, it's why I think they should have him up against guys with that sort of style. I'm one who's a peddler of getting a fighter familiar with dealing with what looks like their stylistic kryptonite and learning how to cope with them early doors, as opposed to avoiding that style for as long as possible. The way I see it is you're sacrificing looking impressive in the short term for becoming a completely better fighter in the long term, perhaps not great from a ''business'' perspective, but frankly I couldn't give a toss about that, because from the actual boxing point of view it's surely worth it.

I like Selby though. Right now I don't think he'll get to world class, but that's with his current capabilities, who's to say he can't add more to his game and ensure more success? Look at Anselmo Moreno, he was a one-trick pony who nobody could envisage reaching the upper echelons of bantamweight. But once he heeded my advice look what happens.;)

No one in UK at weight except Choi could live with him in my opinion. He is just so tough and if you are ever in Cardiff, get down to the gym in Newport and you will understand why. Sparring with Buckland these feathers he faces must seem like bantams.
