As we are all well aware Boxrec can't be taken as gospel, but if this is true it looks like a step backwards for Andy. I mean sure Echols has fought Hopkins, Salem and Zuniga...but he hasn't won any of his last 7 fights. He's 37 and less dangerous than Gibbs was, so I see Andy taking this one by TKO.
Really not a bad choice of opponents for a kid with 17 fights. Echols is a tough guy with 40 fights. Several fights against good opposition. Moreover, Zuniga did not stop Echols, so I think it is probably safe to say that Andy won't either. Zuniga is limited, but the kid can crack. I think this is a chance for Andy to put in rounds. Should be a learning experience, and that is what he needs at this point.
I think Echols a decent opponent. Lees coming off a lenghty break, so it wouldn't do to make it too tough.:deal
Anyone know the reason Lee took off so long? Not bad rebound opponents in Gibbs and now Echols. But, barring an injury that sidelined him, where the hell has he been for the past half year and then some?
I think the point is to get Lee some experience against someone who can punch to see if he can avoid being a magnet for the straight right, but who is otherwise pretty limited. If he gets hit too much by Echols, it'll be a terrible sign for his chances against the punchers at MW. If he can avoid it, it'll show he's learned from one of his major mistakes from the Vera fight and show at least some signs of development.
A friend of mine at work from davenport Ia smashed Echols at a club in 2001, and he is quite diminishe from then, lol, Lee will TKO Echols in under 4 rounds, unless manny wants him to go rounds
It was just media speculation Andy wouldnt fight Smichet out of respect for Duddy (the show lee is fighting on is being promoted by duddys old promotor)
