Cracking new arena, any potential boxing likely to happen there? Was thinking would be great for a winter bout between Khan and Brook
Khan doesn't mind fighting in cities away from Bolton so fits the bill. In an ideal world a promoter would look to get Adil Anwar and Josh Warrington on the undercard as they are both selling decent numbers of tickets. Gary Sykes is just down the road as well and can sell. The other thing about the Leeds Arena is it's design allows its capacity to be scaled down from 13,500 to just 3,000 without it losing its atmosphere so smaller shows are possible there as well.
At long last we've finally got one, 15 years after the original Leeds arena next to the footy ground got shelved. Can't see boxing being a regular feature here considering its lack of popularity and the lack of a big name here.... but we can hope!
Wonder what the atmosphere would be like considering it is fan shaped. It'd be weird that the ring isn't surrounded surely...
I'd imagine it will be set out in the same way as the venue for Lebedev v Jones, a few weeks back. That looked a similar shape. On the atmosphere front, I think it will be better than your average arena.
Exactly. If the top tier is empty here, you won't have a load of dead space like you have at arenas like the one in Sheffield. The fan shape isn't a problem anyway because they'll still be floor seats on all sides of the ring. With the exception of Hatton-Senchenko and the Froch fight at the weekend, most arena shows are usually only filled on three sides with one side blacked off with curtains. As this arena has a wall there, rather than a piece of cloth, the atmos should stay in.
would be a bit weird looking (like the Lebedev fight) but would make for quality views from anywhere i'd imagine
Agreed think it would need to be a fairly big name to sell tickets, Khan has a big fan base around the area so maybe a location for a pre Mayweather fight?
This was the first thing i thought when i saw the new arena - it looks as though there really isnt a bad seat in the house. Location wise it seems good as well so easily accesible
