Sorry if this has been posted before, couldn't find a thread on it. I have the body movement of the hook down (Rotate hips, pivot on lead foot, shift weight to right foot etc), I just can't figure out how my arm should come out, I find it very hard to connect with on the heavy bag and when I do, it feels less powerful then my jab even, which sureley can't be right! Any help on how it should come out form the guard would be GREATLY appreciated!:good
I'm not sure what you mean. Your arm should come out in a hook, your elbow should be in a 90 degree angle. Your fist can be horizontal or vertical, depending on how you throw it. It should be quite a lot stronger than your jab. I don't know what your doing wrong, that's hard to spot over the internet. It should stay in guard as long as possible and be back in guard as fast as possible, don't **** it back before you throw it.

Yes! Raising the elbow is very important. It should be thrown from the hip and shoulder, not the fist. Like all punches.
Its good that your learning the right technique and all, but don't feel bad about a little shoulder flexion. I know the textbook says "stiff body, just hip rotation", but more than likely thats to slow and therefore too weak to do damage or even land. Im not saying do a 100 percent arm punch with no hips but be loose.
Try to make sure your fist is level with your elbow is level with your shoulder (or very slightly lower)
