What do you mean wasted? Just practice it til you get better. It's common for people to struggle throwing it. Not a lot of people use it. That makes it easier to hit people with it if you know how to throw it, since people aren't used to defending against it in sparring. If thrown properly, you can get plenty of power on it. Watch Marquez, Barrera, Margarito. Lot of Mexican fighters favour it, perhaps because the opponent may anticipate a left hook to the body is coming and then gets caught off guard by a shot to the head right up the middle.
I never really train mine to be honest, but Mike Tyson was able to make good use of it. I'm sure many of the posters here though will tell you not to abandon it
I used to think that way before I started focusing on using my left hand more. The left uppercut can be particularly devastating if you set it up properly. Last Saturday in sparring I caught my partner with a strong lead uppercut after setting it up with a jab to the body. It's also quite useful when you're trying to penetrate an opponent's double-forearm guard. My advice to you would be to try and utilize the LU alot more in sparring/training so that you become more comfortable and adept with it.
It is the Mexican Hook! Mexican fighters throw it on the end of a combination instead of the left hook. It is much harder to defend.
its an awesome punch i think! watch terry norris! it also depends on the fighter. mine is better than my right uppercut.
I love uppercuts! As a guy who has a shorter reach for my weight I would have to focus on the inside more, and my right uppercut (southpaw) was one of my favorite punches to throw. It comes at an awkward angle and is harder to see. :hop
Cleverly probably has the best left uppercut in boxing......... so watch the Brahmer fight to see itÂ’s value. [yt]EiDNSh6zWUs[/yt] [yt]nn3YHPZenSs[/yt]
