I was wondering other than the squat the deadlift and all the other lifts you can do with your legs like leg press etc etc , is there any other way of building the same strength in your legs without these lifts ? Such as plyometrics or are they no good without using the squat ??
Climb a lot of stairs, as it gets easier, add weights in a back pack. Cycling in hilly country will put a burn in those legs. I've not seen many avid cyclists that didn't have strong legs. This is old school, but doing duck walk exercises will stress the legs too. Do you have an issue with doing squats and other leg exercises or just don't have the equipment or gym membership.
no no i have no problem with squats etc , i was simply wondering if anything can build the same strength in your legs
Squats and deadlifts are the most efficient. Sprinting is a great option. Don't bother with anything else unless you want sub par results. And have some ****ing patience young'un.
I often do leapfrogs at the gym - good for explosive leg strength. For a full three minutes, from a squat position, jump as far as you can and land in a squat position, exploding off your feet for each jump. Repeat for a full three minutes never getting up out of a squat. Very challenging, and very different from traditional leg exercises. We also do something called horse stance, which is standing in a deep squat position for a period of time like 1 or 2 minutes. Jumping lunges are also very hard and yield great results.
dw im sticking with my squats + deadlifts i was just curious as to other leg strength exercises , there are so many varieties for the upper body it seems there isnt much but the squat and dead for true strength in your legs
i second the duck walk exercises. of course not exclusively but they will get your legs burning in no time, especially if you mix them up a bit. try one minute.
Front squats are a more quad dominant movement, but the back squat loads the body overall moreso, so the benefits are greater as a primary movement, for strength purposes. They both have their place.
