As a boxer its hard to build legacy & make big $ fights, almost equally hard. However, You can make $ elsewhere outside the ring, but Legacy can only be made in the ring
Legacy is overrated. Ive soon too many great fighters ,with this sold called 'legacy' opening car doors at casinos.
You see it often, when a fights reaches a certain level, he fights less often and mainly bigger money fights. No one in their right mind would ever criticize Cotto for his level of opposition. Even he said he wanted DLH for the big payday. Usually, they come hand-in-hand. The fights that pay the most tend to be the ones that would do the most for their legacy. But it's not always the case, like Leonard vs. Hearns 2 and Duran 3, DLH-Pacquiao (most people thought Manny was too small and DLH wouldn't have gotten much credit), Lewis-Tyson, Hagler-Leonard (how much credit would Hagler have gotten for beating a smaller man who had one official fight in 5 years?)
I dont know International "Money" Butt has a nice ring to it. Jasper the Legacy sounds alright too . .
:deal Ray Robinson was one of the hardest guys to negotiate with He had a history of wanting to pull out of fights because he didn't feel like he was getting paid enough. On the night of the fight, he threatened to pull out because he wanted 10-20% more of the TV money.
if you were a top fighter, then you wouldn't need to worry about money, you'd be earning it sufficiently. Not unless you were an idiot in the way you spent it. therefore , for a rational human being with economic sense, its legacy.
All depends how good your are ! With great talent comes plenty of money ..All the greatest fighters eventually made good money. The diffrence was their competitve spirt ! In this era most fighters care more about money over their legacy ! Legacy is only overratted to those who only care about money !
