I see many fighters are criticized for chasing money instead of legacy. So I was just wondering, if it were you which would you chase

There's the money fighters like Holmes, Hopkins, Mayweather, RJJ, Tyson etc, they'll pretty much fight any type of fight for the right amount
The legacy fighters like Ali, Foreman, Mosley, Holyfield etc They just fight everyone (including bad style matchups) but funnily enough dont make that much
Some start off chasing legacy then end up chasing money like Tyson etc

Of course its much more entertaining to see someone chase a legacy than fight the handpicked money fights. But the way I see it fighters should have the freedom to choose one over the other without criticism. If some1 is fighting purely for money fair enough, if they are fighting for legacy, fair enough. I just know that I'll rather have money than recognition.Ali fans became SRL fans became Whittaker fans became RJJ fans became Mayweather fans will become fans of someone else. Fans move on. Taking on too many challenges can have long term effects on the fighter himself, so fighting for 'the fans' is dumb IMO.

When I look at it the money fighters always end up better off. Mosley is a prime example, he basically fought everyone there was to fight but couldnt find a money fight for a whole year. Toney's the same. I cant recall a 'money' fighter having similar trouble.

If it were you which would you prefer to be ?

If I truly believe that I am the best then I would go for legacy, eventually I will earn enough money on the way.

If I not supremely confident on my abilities, then I have doubts on making a great legacy for myself so I will focus more on money because I better make what I can before getting exposed.

Legacy, money comes and goes but a true legacy lasts forever.

  6. the good thing is they can go hand in hand if you play your cards right. floyd would be making a lot more money if we were beating top notch opponents. he's the only one who cant see that.

    Legacy doesnt last forever

Look at Manny's legacy, before refusing the tests some people considered him great. Now half the people who know him know him for possibly being a steroid cheat
Margarito may have won all his fights without cheating

There are tonnes of athletes who will always be labelled cheats and will have all their accomplishments discredited.

Legacy can be lost as quickly as money.

Money, because I would rather be rich partially remembered than broke and remembered. But usually they come hand in hand now. Mayweather is a HOF, now a ton of people on the sidelines will scream he should fight X, Y, & Z. But if fights X, Y, and Z don't pay as much then why should he get hit in the head for less money?

    Let's keep it real...$$$

look at Tyson, great legacy, broke as a joke now tho...also let's not forget what happened to Joe Louis, I wouldn't wanna fight way past my prime at an old ass age just to pay bills.

Its very easy to do both, especially with guys who make millions and millions every fight.

And in often cases one goes with the other.

Pac > Campbell in both $$$ and legacy

Parkinson Disease and a Statue vs Enjoying Trips on islands riding in Rolls Royces and Living in a Mansion while actually being able top remember what you did 2 hours prior.

1 is good for the Fans 1 is good for the Fighter

I keep thinking of Mosley. This year will determine the rest of his Life

    Money.

It's good to have a great legacy in the sport as a terrifc fighter. It's better to have leave a legacy to your kids and grandkids to be set for life.
