I think we're on the verge of a Headbanger appreciation thread.

just to take this topic further off on a tangent regarding spinks.

when he fought tyson, has any fighter seemed as invincable in your life time (roy jones not included lol), tyson was like something out of space, i was fascinated by him, just couldn't ever see how he could lose a boxing match, you could see the fear in all his opponents eyes before he fought.

i liked tyson and if i like a fighter, i'm usually nervous before a fight starts but with tyson there was no nerves before a fight, he had basically won before the 1st bell in 80% of his fights at that time, including v spinks.

when tyson lost v douglas, it was probably one of the most unbelievable experiences of my life, i was shocked at 4am in the morning watching it. i was even more shocked when i woke up at 11am later on, i never thought i'd see mike tyson ever lose a fight.

Tyson losing was more unbelievable than Roy at the time in my opinion. I was young when Tyson lost, but I thought he was god at the time, and with Roy I had a bad feeling about that fight because I knew he was starting to fade and Tarver was a good hungry fighter, that dedicated his life to beating Roy Jones.

Like you said though, Roy did used to have that type of aura, where the fighter good or shitty knew he was beat before the bell rang, not quite what Tyson had though, where usually the fighter looked like he **** his jockstrap before the fight.

Tbh i think Calzaghe actually must be much better than we all realise. Their are other fighters with better resumes yet they are not getting 10 threads a day. Calzaghe in the end decided he wanted a legacy and he has now got one, for betetr or worse lol. People keep commenting on the calzaghe nuthuggers making threads but there are just as many created by haters. All these thread manage to do is slowly cement Calzaghes legacy, inch by inch. In 10 years time people wont remeber how bad/good some of his fights where they will just remeber Calzaghe as THE man of boxing who everyone talked about all the time. Wether he deserves that or not is a diferent thread lol but that is what is slowly happening due to the insane ammount of debates/threads/exposure he is getting. Look at it this way, the only other fighters who get this ammount of threads are floyd and pacman, who most regard as p4p 1 and 2l

He didnt do everything wrong, but he left his unification run far too late, it only happened when he broke from Frank Warren finally.

He probably couldnt get Ottke into the ring, and I dont think Roy Jones wanted to fight him because he knew he was a threat with no US recognition. still he shoulda forced the issue more with Warren

Calzaghe really didn't make any wrong decisions legacy-wise. He could have made some better ones than he did, but to my knowledge it wouldn't have mattered. We always talk about how Calzaghe was unwilling to go to America and push for bigger fights, but let's not forget that there weren't any offers for him. It'd be one thing if say Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins offered him a 60-40 split to travel to America for a fight. If Calzaghe said no, then we could call it a bad legacy move. But he really didn't ever TURN DOWN any offers to go fight in America. The offers simply were never there, and I doubt that these supposed big names that were out there while Calzaghe was doing his thing were ever interested in risking it all against an unknown Welshman, for any amount of money, in any place ever.

I think he trusted Frank Warren too much. After having a tough time with Mickey Duff, Warren and his tv fights mustve seemed like a god send.

That and a combination of shitty injuries and shy German champions!

However Joe definately made up for it late on in his career.
