He was checking all the leg kicks in the 1st round to go back and watch it. GSP would throw 10 kicks and BJ would check atleast 8.
He checked alot of them you're right. But he was getting caught with the inside ones, and he took a couple nice ones on the outside as well. Not saying the leg kicks won GSP the fight, but they certainly effected Penn a bit.
Well ill agree on the inside leg kicks those where landing and probablly effective. But with that you can also look at that fight and see BJ land tons of jabs on GSP and landed more clean power punches. Im not saying BJ dominated standup but he had a edge in that fight no doubt.
I think BJ is the better striker and did indeed get the better of the standup. I was just giving GSP some credit for the work he put in with the kicks. It also may be a strategy he takes this time around also in order to slow penn down. In a 5 round fight leg kicks can be quite effective.
Of course they are a good clean leg kick IMO hurts worse then a power punch to the head and yeah thats with MMA gloves. But maybe im a ***** I spar with Shin Pads and still complain about the pain when im kicked in the thighs.
it was close for sure. i didn't mean it wasn't, just that i thought it was a GSP round. it was a fight i was really thinking he would lose for sure, this time i have to pick him.
I'm a huge fan of both fighters but I think if I had to choose I'd say GSP by TKO with strikes (elbows) from the mount. I know BJ has that incredible takedown defense & it won't be easy but I believe GSP is that strong. I could just as easily see a rear naked choke for Penn.............great matchup, I can't wait.
This fantasy scenario is nice and good, but its fantasy, no one will ground and pound or elbow a top class JJ guy into submission.
As long as we discount Penn's loss to Hughes - I agree wholeheartedly. The more likely scenario is that GSP simply outworks Penn with his versatility down the stretch.
Again if you look at this fight objectively, the probabilty of GSP winning is great but only via decision. BJ has more ways to win although, it would be harder to execute IMO. Forget the Hughes fight like you said, BJ didnt even put his hands up to block Hughes punches. We were watching like whoa whats wrong??
yeah but if Hughes never had him on his back that wouldn't have happened, GSP won every second of the last 2 fights he had with Hughes so that wouldn't have happened to him. I don't want to hear any excuses eithr from the excuse club after this fight is over:verysad
I do american style kickboxing, with no leg kicks. But I've trained and fought international rules. Leg kicks ****ing hurt if you don't check them
