if you watch his fights against Danny Lopez,Azumah Nelson and Gomez he used his footwork and reflexes to avoid theyre bombs and then he broke them apart with his precision punches at his best he was a counterpuncher.

his main weakness was that sometimes he fought to the level of his opopsition,he looked great against the best fighters and against guys like Ford,Castillo and Cowdell he seemed desisterested and did just enough to win.

against JMM he would bring his A-level and that would be too much for Marquez.

How did I do that? Morales fought his 36th round with MAB pre Raheem & pre-Pac. The Morales that fought MAB 3rd time was still very much elite...just watch the 11th round, one of my favorite rounds ever, if not my favourite.

Dude, I've watched the 11th round about 6 times today in itself. I've lost count how many times I've watched their first and third fight. Unbelievable level of technical skill and excitement.

But you did reference the post-Raheem when you suggested that if Pacquiao could knockdown Morales, then perhaps he hits as hard as Sanchez. I know that is not not the exact quote, but I can assure you, Sanchez was a devastating puncher as a Featherweight whereas Manny was an accumulation puncher.

He was very good with his timing and counters, I feel though that from mid range JMM faster and straighter combinations will get the better of him. I think JMM has the stylistic advantage her more than anything. Sal may very well knock him out, but given the odds, I would put alot of money on JMM outboxing him surviving a very tough 12 rounds.

    I'd go:

    1. Ruben Olivares
    2. Julio Cesar Chavez
    3. Vicente Saldivar
    4. Salvador Sanchez
    5. Miguel Canto

Barrera and Morales are borderline top 10 for me.

You misunderstood what I was saying. I meant Morales fought MAB 36 rounds and failed to KD him once. Pac fought MAB and KD him in the 3rd round, and some more after that. I don't buy into the Pac was accumulation puncher at 125, he didnt need accumulation to drop JMM & MAB...and watching him lift Fahsan off the canvas showed he had devastating power. Granted Fahsan was nowhere near elite but you can tell if a punch holds weight, and they did. Sal needed accumulation to drop some of the elites he fought too...

I knew it would be, Sweet Pea. This is not a criticism, but you favor the old timers as opposed to the more modern fighters. I feel considering both Marco's and Erik's skill level, as well as their resumes and accomplishments, putting them in the top 5 would not be doing any other Mexican fighter a disservice, unless of course you left out Chavez, Sanchez, and Olivares.

Would you rate Lopez higher than Marco and Erik, despite his limited resume?

    Fair enough.

But if we go down the list, Sanchez stopped the likes of Wilfredo Gomez and Danny Lopez. What elite fighters did Manny stop at 126lb? Barrera's corner threw in the towel. Who else?

I favor the best fighters, nothing more, nothing less. There happen to be a lot more of them over the previous 110 years than there have been in the past 10, so it's only logical that I'd have a larger crop of past fighters than current ones, especially considering the decline boxing has been on over the years.

As for Lopez, he'd be on par with those two, all of them borderline top 10.
