Whoever said tha Cuevas beat up a young Ayala, is mistaken.. Every account i have heard was that a 14 year old Ayala beat up then Champ Pipino and that While Pipinos corner was giving him a tounge lashing telling him you should be ashamed of yourself letting a boy beat you up, Pipino was muttering in spanish "incredible Incredible" Also Tim Witherspoon once said that Cyclone Hartgave him the blues in sparring, bet he never knocked him out. Zack Padilla,Genaro Hernandez, and Mosley all sparred with eachoter regularly. I saw Hernandez and Padilla spar at the LA boxing gym and it was pretty close with Padilla getting the better of it. I heard Whittaker as an Amatuer but a whupping on then Champ Camacho. Paul Spadofara supposedly whipped Mayweather. And amatuer Breland supposdedly dropped McCory Delahoya as an amatuer was whipping on Chavez before getting dropped. There is alot more that slipped my mind will be back later!
Dempsey was so far past his prime that it didnt mean much however, it was more to just show Max some things in light sparring.
Tua got his ass whiped by holy when holy was getting ready for the first tyson fight..here is some footage..though in this footage the session is decently even. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtuuP57Bzr4[/ame]
Kingfish was a good fighter though..in many ways better then Galento..at least as far as boxing skills go... one of the sources for Dempsey taking out Galento in sparring is Ray Arcel
Danny bon-ah-douche-bag versus Just in "I can bench press 700 pounds" Fortain. PS I needed the space between Just and in, otherwise it gets blocked
im pretty sure i seen that on here somewhere Al F. They were just carrying on really but still good to see. It must have been here i seen it as i dont trawl youtube
Dunno if these have been mentioned yet but Curtis 'Hatchetman' Sheppard sparred with Charley Burley apparently breaking his rib prior to the second Charles bout Apparently (again) Burley also sparred with Elmer 'Violent' Ray and KO'd him Frazier sparred with Norton and Jimmy Young, said Young was impossible to hit clean
I've heard so many different versions of how that went down one of them says Dempsey with a single left hook knocked out Galento cold which i dont believe but i do believe the version of Dempsey getting pissed of with Galento's laziness and hopping in the ring and giving him a good whooping.
Emanuel Steward: The main thing that I remember about Mike is he's the most naturally gifted fighter that ever walked into my gym. He did everything effortlessly. I mean he was just so smooth, so automatic. You would show him a little trick, and . well here's a good example. One day he was boxing with Tommy, and I said to him, 'I'm gonna show you a little trick. Tommy jabs with his left hand down, so I want you to parry it and step over real smooth, and shoot a little one, two and hit him on the chin.' He hit him three consecutive times, and finally Tommy stopped and said, 'How come I can't stop him from hitting me?' And everyone laughed! He did it so smooth-and I've shown that to a lot of fighters-but no one was ever able to do it, and he could hit anybody to the body! The workouts between Mike and Tommy were just unbelievable. They were better than most fights. They were just phenomenal!
This writer has done stories on all of the 1976 Olympic team members. Two of them I have talked with personally. That would be Walker and Armstrong about the Pan Am Games. There may have been several times they boxed for it’s been said Pryor claims to have knocked Leonard down in a sparring session. “In 1975 Pan American Games practice Ray Leonard sparred with Aaron Pryor. Leonard hit Pryor with left hooks, jabs and upper cuts,” said Armstrong. “I did see Ray and Aaron spar on more than one occasion and it was like watching a chess match. Though Aaron was definitely the better slugger, Ray was like poetry in motion as always. But few people realize that Aaron could actually “box” really well when he chose to. I honestly don’t remember either man having a clear advantage over the other. All I know is that it was beautiful to watch. I feel honored to have been on top with these guys at such a wonderful time of truly legendary fighters. I sparred with both Ray and Aaron on quite a few occasions and it is great to be able to have those memories,” said Walker. http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Ken/Hissner080911.htm Interesting info by Il Duce: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9174545&postcount=14
