A young Johnson also sparred with Tom Sharkey,and,according to Ward in his book ,schooled Sharkey.
Johnson is supposed to have embarrassed Firpo in sparring ,and ,when asked how hard the Pampas Bull hit he replied," I can't tell you,I didn't let him hit me".

Here's little info about that sparring:

Didn't you spar with Sugar Ray Leonard when you were an amateur?

When I was 17. It was fun.

Did he whip you?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He'll tell you about it. I did very good with him. I pretty much dominated most of it. He hit me with one hook that was a good shot just to show me he still had it. My hand speed was so much more phenomenal, and he didn't expect me to be that fast. So I caught him. I started messing with him because he was retired (Leonard was training for a bout with Donny Lalonde in 1988; Jones competed in the Seoul Olympics that year). I was getting at him good. He hit me with a hook to let me know, 'I can get at you too.' So it was cool. I thought I got the best of it, but because he landed a good hook I'll call it even.

Riddick Bowe Vs Chris Eubank 1984/1985 - Eubank had won NYC golden gloves at 156 in 85 and Bowe had won NYC golden gloves at 165 in 85, they sparred at Gleason's.

Marvin Hagler Vs Steve Collins 1986/1987 - Collins trained at the Petronell's gym.

Michael Nunn Vs Michael Watson June/July 1988 - Watson and Nunn were only two 'Michaels' in the top ten, Watson got in quality sparring with Nunn and then fought on his undercard when Nunn won his first world title.

Michael Nunn Vs Michael Watson November 1990 - Nunn was in England to watch Benn-Eubank and Watson was fighting on the Benn-Eubank undercard, so they got in some sparring sessions.

Mike McCallum Vs Chris Eubank April/May 1989 - Eubank was chosen to spar McCallum when McCallum was preparing for his fight with Herol Graham.

At least now we know Dempsey did train/spar with black fighters. :good

 

Dempsey sparred many Afro-Americans and fought a number on his way up too - people totally blow the Harry Wills thing up and just say oh he never fought blacks which is utter tripe - for the record Godfrey was his main spar mate throughout his career and upon his own retirement called Godfrey the best fighter on the world in his opinion but Jack had a ton of sparmates who were Afro-American including the likes of big bill Tate

Frazier - Jimmy Young, ive seen footage, although not very good
