A Poll told you all that? If you think putting one's name on a Boxing Forum Poll is a test of one's mettle then you are further down the path of madness than I initially thought. If you were referring to the Poll, 'How good was Primo Carnera?', the majority (20+ votes forming over 70% overall) went for the "midway ground option". This option asked if Carnera was "a good fighter". You and a.nother went for the "He was an ATG" option. Just the two of you. This was also a thread in which you and the other Carnera-confused were, once again, systematically out-debated in perhaps one of the most conclusive thread beatdowns, yet. This doesn't matter to you though because your posts are beginning to resemble the kind of meaningless rhetoric from a weather-beaten old politician, with a rigidly fixed idea, who need only draw their inspiration from a duff auto-cue, from time to time. You're right, it "really is quite laughable" - especially, when you consider that GALVATRON voted for Carnera being "an elite great". So much for Polls, eh?
Again, I don't see how wanting to know how many people think Primo was for real warrants so much abuse. I am no further down the path to madness because I would like to know if Primo was for real or not anymore than the person wanting to believe Primo was an out and out hoax. This poll required a gun to the head decision. And the result speaks for itself. It's not about Primo being an all time great. It's just about him being a phoney champion or not. No amount of abuse will make wanting to find that out an unreasonable decision.
This is correct. This is a poll on legitimacy. It's not about how good he was. That's a separate question. If one abstains from a vote of legitimacy what does it say?
You're the one, who brought up the 'How good was Primo Carnera?' Poll, as means to insult those who chose not to vote - so, you can put your fake indignation, over so-called "abuse", where the sun does not shine. Now, you're back to this Poll, again. All it says is that a given number of posters on this Forum were prepared to vote 'Yes - Primo paid his dues at world level', faced with an alternative that would mark Carnera as a "fraudulent oaf". A considerable number did not vote; probably close to double the number of your Poll's total respondents. Some made it clear why they did not vote. That's all I or anyone else has found out. It has not determined whether Carnera was one thing or another. Pure self-indulgence on your part; you, a self-confessed believer that Carnera was an All Time Great. Well that doesn't tell us much about how you wanted this thing to turn out now, does it?
Oh, well maybe it was intended to deceive. It may just be the product of poor thinking skills in constructing a good poll. Probably a bit of both ..... It's not smart enough to deceive. choklab is the only one who cares about the result in any meaningful way, I'd guess. From all these Carnera discussions, I tend to think Primo has become quite fairly treated as a historic fighter, which wasn't really the case for many decades.
Agreed. I also believe Primo is better thought of. Whatever side of the debate, I believe what has come out of this discussion is that Primo is now getting a fairer crack of the whip than he was getting before.
I see the Primo 3 is down to only Choklab now, and while he's clearly on the wrong side of the argument, he at least keeps on trying.
Nobody is actually arguing with Choklab. They're just trying to belittle him and his argument for the sake of it. Its cringeworthy. If you don't like the poll, bow out the thread or make a new one. This whole "Choklab, you're crazy" shtick is annoying. Guess what? Most people don't vote on polls they don't consider somewhat interesting or significant. What you guys are really doing is insulting the respondents of the poll, since they didn't have to answer it.
I see four voted for Primo being a fraud, and four people giving Chok a hard time on a legitimate poll.
I abstained from voting because I don't like the poll options. But I like the thread subject. I think Carnera was an oaf who paid his dues at world level. I believe Carnera's legitimacy as champion is doubtful but I don't consider him a "fraud" at all. I think he was a good fighter. So, there's no option for me. For that reason, perhaps I'm too harsh on the poll and choklab's constuction of it but it doesn't seem underhand nor as crazy as some have mentioned. I think it's just a bit flawed and from my own point of view nonsensical, but maybe I'm nonsensical ! Regardless of the actual poll I've enjoyed a lot of the discussion here. The problem with these polls and threads is that they mushroom out of other arguments in other threads and I guess that's what annoyed some so much when choklab starts a poll that is perhaps somewhat flawed to 'prove' something they've already disagreed on.
