When it's sparring day ( friday ), my legs usually start to feel jelly on the journey to the gym and when i am in the gym it really begins to turn jelly. My legs are sort of giving way ( as if there is no support ). I suppose this is a result of nervousness because of the sparring. I'm having my first fight in 20 days and i don't want my legs to give in on that day. It really destorys my performance as it becomes very difficult to move around. how am i gonna get rid of that nervousness? it happened many times while i was a xcountry runner and got some of my races screwed up. ain't gonna let it happen in a boxing match! please give me some advise, thanks a lot!
I was like that, until i got a smashing straight on my face that got me a fat black eye, then i started being much more alert
Why are you fighting soon if you get nervous in sparring?? I assume you havent mentioned this to your trainers
Try not to think too much about it. Accept the fact that you are going to get hit, but you're not going to get hurt, and put up your best effort. Listen to some nice chill music on the way to the gym, something that isn't remotely related to fighting. I personally like Kid CuDi and some Bob Dylan or Beatles. Don't make a huge deal about it. Just pretend it's another day at the office.
I know. And exactly everyone is nervous for their first fight but if you have someone who is so nervous that his legs are going all weak ON THE WAY TO THE GYM FOR SPARRING imagine how worst it will be when he's walking out and has a guy who actually wants to take his head off staring at him?
Always true and is very normal but ALWAYS or as much as possible, spar with people much better than you and keys to being good also has to come from your heart, NEVER and this is no option NEVER go in the ring scared. Its an automatic loss If you wanna use your head and punches and footwork first you gotta have the heart, your there to learn don't expect to be KOing everyone in the ring, Expect to get KOed instead and work your way out of situations
