What is wrong with modern, pussified boxing fans?? When this kind of **** happened back in my day, we SCREAMED at the screen, at these goddamn squeamish trainers or refs who deprived us of the definitive finishes we paid to see!!!

You don't throw the towel in for Gatti gene fighters, especially British ones. We are a warrior people and we are never out of a fight untill we are out cold on the canvas and even then we still have a chance.

He was done. He saw Lara take nukes to the body and walk straight through it. Then got his brain rattled. Man was done and he doesn't have the talent to beat Lara.

Yes, but the referee should have been allowed to take a look.

The towel WAS premature, but only because the ref hadn't waved them in yet. Let the ref look at him, give your man maximum amount of time to get his legs under him, then throw it when the referee waves, you can step in too if you want. There were some more modern seconds there.

Fight didn't need to continue, but the towel shouldn't have been thrown when it was, that was clearly wrong.

Ref gave Wood plenty of time. It was 10 count. More instruction to make sure he is OK. While giving the instruction to raise hand towel come in. Let the fight continue. If he isn't protecting himself or can't get that clinch right away then throw in towel. You can still throw in the towel. See what ref does and see how he reacts. I just don't agree with this corner.

I was about to post BS on long count and extra time given by ref

Ordinarily I'd agree with you & perhaps scumbag isn't the right word, but to me it is honestly feasible that Davidson saw the chance to be praised for being a caring cornerman & that prospect was of more value to him than giving Wood every chance of winning the fight.

If I'd read another poster say the above about any other trainer throwing in the towel, I'd say they were clutching at straws. But this is Ben Davidson. If Wood, or any other world level fighter, is stupid enough to go with Davidson as their head trainer again, they deserve all they'll get.

His legs were under him better than CEJ's vs Smith and he got the chance to see if he could ride out the storm. I take your point and I know you're questioning the stoppage too - and maybe scumbag is a tad harsh - but a cornerman is paid to make good calls under pressure. Towel in hand and eyes glued to the next phase of action after the ref called 'box on', and throwing it if legs buckled or there was a lack of strength to tie up Lara would be fine.

It also hadn't been all one-way traffic. What if that was Lara going all-in? So yeah maybe not a scumbag trainer but an ex-trainer for sure...

As mad as I am with Davison, that serves him right for Americanizing Wood and having him throw that disgusting/ should be illegal pawing air jab nonstop and octopus grabbing.

As many have posted, Lara was eating many clean punches too. He wasn't looking to good until he out hooked Wood.

    We will never know.
