The shaky Wood would have the wherewithal to be so rational?

The next punch could have been a haymaker that landed equally as clean on the disorientated Wood, ya know...the sort of thing that happens ALL THE TIME after a massive KD.

 

How many haymakers did Lara land in the fight?

How many times was Wood one ***** Street with an aggressive Lara going in for the kill?

Doesn't matter what Lara was fighting like up to this point. He landed a huge punch that had Wood that knocked Wood down hard and Wood clearly hadn't recovered which you could see when Davidson was basically holding him up 20 seconds later.

You can argue both ways on the stoppage, but it wasn't some weirdly bad towel throw, as if Wood was bouncing around and landing on lara when it was thrown.

 

I think we have to go with the corners on this. A highly accomplished trainer educated me that a trainer must know a fighter’s limits better than the fighter himself.

 

I agree they are a compelling watch on TV. I loved Gatti’s trilogy with Irish Micky Ward from an entertainment perspective less so from a skills perspective. I particularly enjoyed Floyd’s destruction of Gatti to win the WBC belt at 140 pounds which was Floyd’s first PPV.

 

We need to respect Lara who is now the number 1 featherweight in the world.

Dear @Serge, @CST80 , @Pimp C ,@chacal ,@Komaster et al, please see this Carl Froch video below. Froch initially thought it was a premature stoppage but he spoke to Wood his town man in Nottingham this morning and admitted he was gone:

With 7 seconds left he could have made it out of the round by holding/clinching and getting that 60 second break between rounds. Thing is he wasn't given the opportunity to do that, when I watch it over it still seems like a bad stoppage to me.

 

On second watch it was a bit quicke but the outcome would have been the same the same Lara hits way harder

 

Looking at the ending, the corner blew it. The ref was still accessing whether Wood could continue. That was going to eat up another 3 or 4 seconds. Lara was also being a dumb ass and not staying in a natural corner. The ref would burn up another 3 seconds getting him to neutral corner before letting them fight. Wood probably had a good 4 seconds left in rnd had corner not thrown in towel. 1 minute to recover with ice and splash of cold water .
